Mobile Broadband usage - confused by numbers

When I started my new 3 Mobile Broadband account, which is for 5GB a month, after a couple of days I discovered the "check my usage" facility on My 3 website.

On 26th July it was showing I still had 5564.38 (what?) left to use. I thought this was a bit odd as I'd have expected it to start at 5000. It has been reducing gradually and now shows 4975.284 remaining "to use this month".

The thing is, it doesn't seem to have rolled over to a new period at the end of July, nor at the end of my first month's contract, so I don't understand how it works.

Can anyone explain please?

quite simply theres 1024mb in a gb so in a month you have 5210mb to use in a normal month, not 5000 as you expected thats where the numbers come from.

Im assuming this is your first month in which case you usually get a couple of days untill your first bill is produced and you enter in to a full month cycle, these few days are added on to your first month allowance, so you have ended up with more than the normal monthly allowance for this first month, it looks like your allowance is for 1 full month and 2 days.

at the end of the next month it will reset to the normal monthly allowance, and you will get 5210mb to use

i am also on 3 mobile broadband was wondering when does the month start on the broadband usage? i got an email on friday to say i have used my allowance and if i wanted more I would go on PAYG for the remainder of the month until the 31st.....it doesnt state if the new month starts on the 31st or if it starts on the 1st

Usually its from 00.01 on the date in the text but check your bill, the bill date is the date your allowance is reset, say it says the 1st, your allowance will reset at 00.01 on the 1st.
