I'm a bit put out now. Paid £600 a year ago to have daughters room plastered. 2 walls stripped of lathe and plaster and plasterboard stuck on and skimmed, chimney wall skimmed and stud wall skimmed, no ceilings. They did what we thought was a reasonable job but upon drying the finish was rubbish, round the lightswitch and plug sockets was awful, and they never went right to the ceiling or floor so when we came to fit new coving and skirting board it was a hell of a job. As usual when we needed a recommendation nobody knew anyone and afterwards everyone did. That's what you get for phoning random companies from the yellow pages I guess.

Sorry to hear you had a bad job there laura.Sometimes it's hard for the untrained eye to spot the fault's until the mist coat goes on.Then you spend the next day or 2 sand and filling. If the job was a bad one wouldn't the guy come back and skim it again?? as for the price,it was a bit pricey for one room.Next time you have a room skimmed tho you will know what to look for ;)

After looking for a plasterer for weeks, finally got one to come and quote me for covering room and hall/'stairway (3 bed Wimpey from the 70s with mad artex).

£1000? Just couldn't afford it so still living with offensive, depressing artex...

Plasterers are a rare breed in Central Scotland

1000 to reskim one room and hall way? think you were taken for a ride there depending how big room, and say an average stairway should have been 600 to 700 inc materials, alho granted it is difficult without looking, but a thousand is off the mark i think.

Before I watched that video I thought to myself how funny would it be if there was Benny Hill music playing! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :T

I know a good plasterer near Glasgow! If that's any help?
  • Any one any idea how much it would cost to replaster (i think it's called skimming) our three bed semi, we want to do the 3 bedrooms, two are double rooms but have built in wardrobes down one wall in the front, and around the corner and one wall in the back. So there's not really much wall to do. Most of the walls are just bumpy with old dado rail holes and picture holes. Have no idea if it's worth getting quotes or will it be lots and therefore I should wait and save a bit more.

    Thanks for any ideas.

No doubt U will av it all done en dusted by now, Get someone on the fiddle as they only charge £150 A room tops, my man just skimmed my living room and kitchen for £150 all in as he works for the council so gets the gear for niksee. Council workers are always cheap as they are on a low wage to start with so giving them a £150 in their back burner gives them some much need drinking coin. Dint go paying £300 notes for a room as you are getting your eyes taking out love, loads will crack on for £150 a room, and to be honest it only takes them a day a room anyway so £150 notes a day is good money in my opinion as anything more is a liberty.
