Freeview plus box (recorder)

This is my first post but I thought it would be worth a shot...hope it works...(if ive done something wrong please let me know)......this is about a possibly cheaper freeview recorder box

Last week, i bought a freeview recorder box (not sure if its HD) from Tesco at a super cheap price of £49.99 (reduced from £79.99)...it has the full set of freeview channels and an internal hard drive of 160GB which is ALOT of space, it does all the stuff that the normal freeview recorder boxes do...the only difference is that it's a re-furb.

I asked the techy people at the tech counter Tesco what that meant, and they basically told me that there had been a problem with them originally and that the makers had to recall and fix them and then re-sell them, they had never been used, but had all had the boxes open etc. They had ones with bigger hard drives on sale for a little more (I think around £70) that were re-furbs as well.

They are top-up TV boxes (top-up TV being optional) and have the yellow labels on the shelf edges saying they have been reduced and also have stickers saying they are re-furbs. The make is Thompson. These boxes also come with the usual warranty/guarantee that tesco offer on all their products.

Not sure how many of these Tesco will have but I found this in one of the larger stores....always worth an ask to see if they have any if it's what you're after...you never know, they may have other electrical goods with big discounts that are perfectly good but refurb....

Top Up TV also do a bit of moonlighting on ebay. Decent boxes from £30 or so.

This is actually direct from TopUp TV.

There seems to be loads of these luxor / thomson freeview + boxes that are referbs - Do you think it might be something to do with setanta branding?

Whatever else it is, it certainly won't be Freeview HD at £49.99!
I'm guessing that the imminent Humax Freeview HD PVR will be in the region of £275.
