I always use shampoo to clean my makeup brushes - never used the expensive specialist cleanser.

I just run the bristles under water, put a 10p sized blob of my normal shmpoo in the palm of my hand, and massage into the bristles. Rinse with clean water, and repeat if necessary until the water runs clear.

My theory is if it's good enough for my hair, it's good enough for the hair in my makeup brushes :)

Works a treat every time. Just remember to let them dry naturally after or you could ruin the bristles.

I use shampoo too:) Leave the brushes to dry on thier side and the bristles wont come away from the glue and shed when you use them:)
Thank you for this site Martin

    Good luck for the future

Ditto e.l.f brushes, for £3.50, they are very good quality

I also use any shampoo, I find the anti-dandruff ones are really good at taking out stubborn foundation

    I have:
An M&S foundation brush that is excellent - bought after reading reviews on here!
An old Lancome eyeshadow brush that was in a GWP. It's good, but I think the ones they now sell are a bit expensive (they didn't sell any when this GWP was out!).
Some No7 brushes bought with the £5 vouchers. They're good, I especially like the eyeshadow ones.
Some R&M brushes bought with the £5 vouchers. Don't use these as much, so can't really advise on them.
Some Body Shop brushes bought in glitches. They are really soft and lovely to use.

May have to get a couple of the Ecotools ones to try! Thank you for the recommendation! :)

I second the recommendation for Ruby & Millie brushes - I have the mini brush set & the large foundation brush (the brush head is just as good in the mini size). I just found one on Ebay (please check the seller feedback etc. if you decide to bid as I didn't look into that).

Boots do this type of set for Xmas gifts at quite a good price. They'll probably be on the shelves soon.

I also like Jemma Kidd's brushes (http://www.jemmakidd.com/). Boots used to sell a set of brushes but they don't sell Jemma Kidd any more - I think its more upmarket now. It might be worth an internet search to see if you can get them for a better price.

Belfastgirl: To clean the brushes use warm water and a little baby shampoo, very gently massage the brush bristles between your fingers and rinse when clean, lay them flat on a towel to dry. I read somewhere that you shouldn't get the base of the brush wet as some brushes are glued at the bottom. You should wash your brushes at least every few weeks (some say it should be weekly but I'm too lazy for that).
