Can anyone recommend some make up brushes?

Hi, i've recently revamped my make up collection and now realised that I don't have any decent brushes. I know that MAC brushes are meant to be very good but at £30 a brush I can't/won't pay it. I realise that make up brushes are an investment so I would pay like £10-£15 for them but I really need some recommendations.

Sigma has been recommended but they are a US brand, has anyone tried them?

Anyone else used any good brushes? I love my foundation brush atm, so I really just need eyeshadow brushes (a blending brush, a pencil brush and one for putting the shadow on the lid)

TIA

I have no idea how much they go for but have you tried the Body Shop's version? they are good quality and I think they have an offer on atm, they usually do.

Boots No.7 have good brushes too, if you can get hold of their £5 voucher (buy anything costing more then £5) you can use this off a brush. It does mean you need to make several transactions but can work out well.

If you have one near you, try Artists stores, paint brushes can be really useful but be aware that in good art shops they will have a variety of brushes made from different types of hair. Some synthetic, some animal, some natural. Each will feel different, some softer then others, some better for powder application (eg eye shadow) some better for silicon eye colour, some better at eyeliners made from gel for example.

Other then that there is always ebay but its a risk if your not sure what your looking for.
  • I think the Urban Decay ones are really good.

Another vote for body shop brushes - I love my foundation brush especially from them.
  • I purchased my MAC brushes 15 years ago and they are still going strong. That is value for money in my books.

Thanks everyone, if money was no object I would be buying MAC brushed, I've heard that they are amazing however at £30ish a brush thats just a no no just now.

I've got a few Avon brushes but I don't really get on with them unfortunately.

I'll go and have a look at Bodyshop and No7 brushes and see what they are like.

    Thanks :D

ETA: I've looked at MAC brushes on eBay but there seems to be so many fakes going about I don't feel safe buying from there which is a shame.

  • Crown Brushes are excellent; most of my professional brushes are from there!
