So I found myself in the situation of using up my 1,300 text messages I get each month (insane, I know... but it's the only way girly and I can stay in touch when we're not together as neither of us can have voice communication whilst at work, it's way too impractical). For the first time ever, I ran out.

I phoned 3 and moved tariffs to get 5,000 instead for an extra fiver (and a an added bonus 2,000 extra voice minutes as well), but that wouldn't kick in until my next billing cycle. Agggh.. the possibility of spending £200+ on text message fees wasn't a pleasant thought.

Buy a PAYG phone? Could have done.. but expensive for a half decent one. And then I'd have to carry 2!

Get another SIM on a 30 day contract that includes unlimited texts? Could have, but I'd need another phone. Plus it'd be irritating to have to text ALL my contacts for the sake of a month, then do it again when the new tariff kicks in.

Bolt on a text-message add-on? Can't, because there is a price plan change pending. And the best they could offer was 200 for £20. Rubbish.

Argh!

Found, after a bit of digging, https://www.FishText.com - you can send SMS online that comes from your own phone number, so the other party can reply straight to your phone with no funny business involved. They also have an iPhone and Android-compatible App that'll let you do it from your actual phone! The bonus of this method is, every text you send ends up in the right place in the conversation (those who use Android or iPhone phones will know what I mean here).

The cost per text? Between 1p and 2p, depending on the network it goes to! And you get enough free credit for 20-odd free texts.

I realise that sounds like a bit of an advertisement, but I'm just a little bit happy about it! 500 texts to the other half for a tenner, rather than 82 texts at 3's standard rate. :T
