I would explain to them why you are going and try to squeeze 10%

I know they give 10% for NHS staff, so no reason why if you're nice to the manager, they wouldn't extend the same to you.

Or you could tell them you live or work locally...

So if you are volunteering etc, no harm in trying your luck
