Does anyone have an induction hob

Hi,
We'll be changing our kitchen soon and I was wondering if anyone here uses an induction hob - they sound marvellous but are they as good in practice?

I've got one, I've been using it for about a year - previous to that I had a gas hob. It is very fast at heating up, and very controllable. I love the fact that it is very easy to clean - the only down side was having to buy new pans as my previous ones weren't suitable for using.So many shoes, so little time....0

i am really pleased with mine. it indicates when it is still hot after cooking, which is nice, and it is easy to clean.0

i have one its a de dietrich had it three years now and paid 600 pounds for it i got my saucepans from the old store allders. i think you can use cast iron on them as well. i shall be leaving mine behind when we move in a years time and will go back to gas. they are good and easy to clean but i prefer gas.Before you point fingers,make sure your hands are clean !;)0

I've got a halogen one which looks similar but the science behind it is different!
I like it because it's easy to clean - quick wipe over with a cloth and that's it! It also doubles as a cooling space when taking things out of the oven, assuming you are not using it. I previously had a gas cooker that was fiddly to clean and I hated it.Here I go again on my own....0 -
i have one i love it for all of the above but not verg good for doing stir frys about from that its great0

I've got one (Baumatic, bought half price from Ideal Home Exhibition).
LOVE
The flatness of it
The fact that there are no sticking out knobs
Easy to clean
Speed of boiling :T
Safety (you really can lift the boiling pan and put your hand on it) :beer:
HATE
Unreliability of temperature - I need something between 4 and 5, and can't get it :mad:
Husband LOATHES it :eek:
HAVE DOUBTS ABOUT
the fact I leave stuff all over it (well, it's a flat worksurface in a tiny kitchen) - I'm always worried that the cat will walk over it* and turn it on when we're out. So I turn it off at the wall most of the time. :rolleyes:
*The cat is not allowed on the worksurface, and AFAIK doesn't get up there. But who can tell what he does whilst we're out?Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -
We've pretty much ripped our kitchen out due to having an extension built. That means no hob or oven at the moment. I'm definitely getting a new hob. I've only ever used a gas hob. I've read a bit about induction hobs and they seem to have the controlability of gas and I know that my copper-bottom pans won't work on them but that's all I know . I don't know how efficient they are for instance.
I don't know anyone with an induction hob, so thought I'd ask on here to see what people make of them.0 -
Bought first Neff Induction Hob eleven years ago, cost about £1300.00. One of the "rings failed after 9 years. Cheaper to replace as price had now dropped to £600 approx.
It has a pulse feature which boils a pan of water so fast, I stand and wait for the boil, also a handy keep warm setting.
How easy it is to wipe over a sheet of glass, no knobs etc to remove? Food doesn't burn on it anyway as it doesn't get hot, which also means kitchen cool in Summer.
Energy efficent as only the contents of the pan are heated.
I originally got one as there is no mains gas but now I wouldnt want any method.0 -

Blimey, you must have some time on your hands to drag up a 2½ year old thread:D
They are practically instantaneous heat and are as controllable as gas, and you need pans that have magnetic bases,(steel, cast iron etc), for them to work, don't believe anyone who says you can touch the hob after using one, as irrespective of where the heat comes from you WILL burn your hand, as the heat transfer from the pans will be there, we have a De Dietrich one and I can assure you it DOES hold heat!Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

Too right. Sitting here twiddling my thumbs while the builders take the kitchen roof off and demolish two walls. Thinking about eating proper food instead of microwave rubbish is the only thing that's keeping us going!!
