Depends on what tests your wife has used and how far along she herself thinks she is.

Some of the really sensitive ones will work before her period is due. Has she missed her period yet? The longer you leave it after her period due date the higher the concentration of HCG (pregnancy) hormones in her urine - if she is pregnant - then any test should immediately come up positive.

If she's missed a period and is getting negative results, she may not be pregnant at all. There are lots of other reasons why this may have happened. Probably nothing to worry about and just carry on having fun trying!!!

Often the more you want something the easier it is to 'find' symptoms. My first symptoms were incredibly sore boobs and a vile metallic taste in my mouth. The best thing is to wait until she's gone beyond when her period is due and then test...and yes that can be really hard, believe me I know as I used to have 6-7 week cycles!

It's worth bearing in mind that the manufacturers say you can get a false negative, but never a false positive.

Myth I'm afraid, you can DEFINITELY get a false positive (I did - and it was done by a nurse in A&E too!!).

My early symptom was nausea when I was a few days late, although I'd put this down to work stress so had no idea I was pregnant!

It's easy to imagine symptoms when you really want to be pregnant, so the best thing your wife can do rfowler is relax, and pee on a stick when she's perhaps a week late.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

She probably wont get a positive result if she is pregnant until her period is due. You can get the first response kits but they are quite pricey and if she can wait, and believe me I know how hard it is to wait LOL, she should get a cheaper supermarket test. :money:;)
If it isn't a BFP (big fat positive) this time she could get sticks from e bay, I got 10 for a couple of £'s they are more sensitive but tend to give you a really faint line.

Good luck hope you get your positive result and if not there is a fab thread on here Trying for a Baby part ?(sorry can't remember but it's always on the first page) the ladies will welcome you with open arms!

As for her symptoms it is very easy to 'symptom spot' when trying for a baby and for every symptom you can bet that google will suggest that you are pregnant. When i was trying I kept getting 'symptoms' until the month I actually got my positive result!!

There is no way you can get a false positive unless you were on hormonal certain medication, the test hunts for HCG and you only make it when your pregnant. You can however get evaporation lines after 15 mins (very very faint colourless lines)

Is her period overdue ? If not best to wait until she is a few days overdue as more likely to have the pregnancy hormone in her urine

Also do the test in first thing in the morning

    Fingers crossed for you

that's what i've done. i read 'taking charge of your fertility' by toni weschler. it's a brilliant book full of very useful information. :)

it's cd9 for me and i'm getting really impatient waiting to ovulate even though i'm most probably not going to until at least cd17, does anyone else get like that? but, i'm having fun in the mean time;)

on the plus side i found £20 while walking the dog this morning :j:D:j and i did my first ever gateway assessment for c.a.b this morning. been training to work for them for months now, i knew this day would come and i've been bricking it

I was on no medication, I was taken into A&E with food poisoning that wouldn't go away, and the test was definitely positive, and the second line was clear! I was shown it minutes after it was taken!

I insisted they did another one (as I was sure I wasn't pregnant), but alas a load of people involved in a car crash came in, so I had to wait 45 minutes for another test, which was negative.

Longest 45 mins of my life.

You CAN get a false positive!
