I would guess that you aren't pregnant marywooyeah if the tests have shown negatives. Your period could have been delayed in the stress of all of the wedding and the dip in BC pill. However, I'm not medically trained, so it may be worth booking an appointment with your GP to discuss it.

thankyou sexymouse, I don't think I've ever had a missed period due to stress but I am not the type of person who writes them down so not completely sure how long my cycle is. my GP only does appts once a week, the rest is open surgery and the last time I went I got there at 8:30am and didnt get seen til 11:20  so don't know whether its worth it, especially if he's just going to tell me to wait longer! can missing a couple of pills "reset" your cycle?

I would guess that is what has happened mary, but it's been a while since I've been on the pill, so you may like to get advice from family planning. You can either email them, or there is a helpline that is open 9-6 Mon-Fri that you can call for advice on the phone.

  • Hi folks, wife and I are trying for a baby, she came off the pill 2 months back and so far, two months and no luck.

I'm sure this is probably very early days to worry about anything, but havind put off having kids until we were "ready" and more financially secure, I now regret it a bit because i'm so impatient.

Anyway what I wanted to know if a) tips for getting pregnant b ) how long should we try before we see a doctor to check for problems?

    Cheers

    Good idea.

It's just copying and pasting the update and adding a day on right? Think I can manage that.

    I'll take Wednesday.

LGP - usually people will see their doctor if they haven't conceived after a year. You may like to both go to your doctor though as you are trying to conceive, to have a check-up and a chat.

Your wife should make sure she is taking folic acid though to make sure that she lessens the chance of neural tube defects (spina-bifida is associated with lack of folic acid), and you should both try to cut down on caffeine (around 2 cups of coffee a day).

Taking zinc is meant to be good for your swimmers.

Try not to get too stressed about how long it takes - everyone is different, and as I said, anything up to a year, is still normal.

I use a diary to keep track of my cycle days too. Cycle day 1 is the first day of full bleeding. It helps after you come off the pill, as I expect her cycles may be a little irregular in length at first as the contraceptives can take a while to completely disappear.
