Lesson time for Icey please!

So that I have this temping/charting thang right in my head can you confirm I have got this?

The temping/charting aims to predict when ovulation is about to occur?
The OPKs detect the surge of a hormone (?) that comes with ovulation?
BD-ing on the day before, that day or the day after is the best to catch the eggie?

My Basal thermometer whotsit arrived this morning (just as I was going out the door, sigh) so I shall be trying to work out FF from tomorrow. I listened to the presentation clips last night which was stuff I kinda already knew but is always good to confirm what I already know!

Sorry for being a Thicko! Wanted to make sure DH and I are doing what we should be to hook a sticky bean!

Can't believe how fast this thread moves!! Have been really busy with work this week so wasn't able to check the site until now!

My chart isn't online- only on paper- bought the book Taking Charge of you Fertility'- really good but haven't been charting online. I'll have to have a look at the FF website. Glad to hear it's free. How are you able to see other people's charts once you're on it? Do you use the same username there?

Well, since my last post on Monday, I've had a temperature surge and this has contiuned for the last 3 days so I'm crossing my fingers (and everything else!) that this means I've ov'd!! We bd'd around the time I ov'd as well so we'll see what happens in the next 14 days. When's the earliest you can take a HPT? This means I'm now 4 DPO.

The temping can only tell you after ov has occured as you temp should rise the day (or so?) after ov. It is good though because it's one of the best ways of telling you if you ov. (hope that makes sense! )
OPKS do detect the surge in LH (Lutinizing (sp?) hormone) prior to ov. When you get a +ve (ie the test line is the same or darker than control line) you should get on BDing because you should ov in the next 12-36(?) hours. You can get a surge in LH and not ov but this would be reflected in you temps as they would not increase. Which is why it is a good idea to do both.

We all have our own usernames but you can add other people as "friends" on it. Also once you have set yours up post a link to your homepage (hopefully QQ can tell you how because she knows and I've forgotten ) then QQ will put a little link on you name when you appear on the Team Sticky list.

If you have ov'd then I would say it is likely that it was 4 days ago (this is where FF comes in handy because it automatically charts these things for you so you don't have to guess ). They say to test on the first day of your missed AF although some tests can pick up a positive earlier.

Have had a look at FF just now and it looks really good. Just need to input my data now!

Until starting TTC I didn't realise it was so hard to get a BFP! Nor did I realise that you could do so much to help yourself!
