PMs from buddies only

on another site I recently visited (can't mention it) they have a pm function we don't seem to have

You may limit the members who may send you private messages to just those on your buddy list if you wish. Other members who attempt to send messages to you will be told that you have disabled private messaging.Receive Private Messages only from Buddies

it means you can get pms from people on your buddy list but others will be blocked, presumably without you ignoring their posts ...........this would be handy as unsolicited pms/spam etc won't get through

AND it would stop people being nasty ,(especially to those they don't even know)because they don't agree with a post etc....................I don't believe they will go on the boards instead as cowards don't do that ,they prefer to attack in private:eek:

what do you think

It seems like a good idea in principle. The only reservation I have with this is that often peeps PM out of the blue a piece of advice on personal matters, even if they are not know to the receiving user.

Then again they could post they want to send a PM, but this may clutter a thread...

Hmmm.. I have to say that I like the idea though...:) and it certainly would stop nasty peeps sending abusive PMs.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

The crab likes the idea but again like Q I've been PM'd by some people with advice or questions about something I've posted. On one occasion it was quite useful but I suppose if the option is there it can be used if the user feels like it :) I did get a spam message but just sent an email to abuse the other day and deleted it. If I do get PM's I don't want it does makes me feel popular though :rotfl:

I like getting random PMs - never had a bad one yet :)
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

I like to hear from people I have never come across before, but, the option would be nice for some :)
