We’re cutting the price of petrol for the second week running – and just in time for the Bank Holiday weekend.

From tomorrow morning (Wednesday 25th August) filling up at Asda will cost no more than 110.9p for unleaded and 113.9p for diesel.
The latest cut means that in the past week our unleaded prices have fallen by 3p.

Earlier this week the Asda Income Tracker revealed that the price of petrol was the biggest pressure on family finances last month.

Phil Briggs, Asda’s Commercial Director, said: “When it comes to petrol pricing we keep it simple – we try to be the first to drop and the last to put them up, wherever you live. While others are happy to hold onto higher prices for longer, and even inflate them locally where they can get away with it – we believe the right thing to do is have consistently low prices every day, everywhere.

“This summer is no different, which is why we’ve led a concerted effort to lower the cost of living for our customers – be that cutting the price of a loaf of bread, pint of milk or litre of fuel.”

I visit superstores all over the country and see the ruthless ripping off of customers by the other big supermarkets in rural areas. Today I was in Yeovil where they have an Asda and it was 113.9p for diesel, yet just 20 miles away in Bridport it was 116.9p for diesel at Morrisons.

Bearing in mind that people who live in rural areas do not have access to decent public transport, it is disgraceful that some supermarkets seem fit to locally charge whatever they like for fuel. A big thumbs up to Asda for consistently keeping prices for fuel low all over the United Kingdom. Even though they don't have a loyalty card scheme for fuel like Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsburys I will always use them if I need fuel. :)

Tesco's near me is 110.9 a litre, went about 25 miles away to another tesco and it 116.9 a litre, another one about 10 miles from is 113.9, just a complete rip off considering the ones further away is closer to the depot they get the petrol from in the first place!

Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

The Asda closest to me is a good half an hours drive, so hardly worth it.

Tesco near me was 1p dearer than asda, but then you take into account 1p you get back on the clubcard and it makes sense again!

And then you realise you get fuel a penny cheaper using the Asda credit card.

msmyth - you are buying your Clubcard points - where is the sense in that?

Edited afterthought - of course, it does make sense if you use those points in one of Tesco's Double-Up promotions - or for entries to Theme Parks etc. where they are worth 4-fold.

I think ASDA are the only supermarket that have a national price for fuel, the others make up the price compared to local competition.
