EDF: is anyone having problems getting through to CS?

I've been trying to get through to EDF on their customer service number (0800 096 9000) numerous times since mid July and haven't once managed it yet. Sometimes I let that awful, funeral like, music they play go on for half an hour before I have to hang up as I feel like ripping my hair out as it is nails-scratching-down-a-blackboard awful music. I've just managed another half hour stint and the same - never got to speak to anyone before I had to hang up to keep my sanity.

I've been with EDF since 2005 and have never had problems in the past getting through. I usually got through within a few minutes.

I think it is time for me to move on, a company with customer service like this isn't worth bothering with but I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem getting through to EDF?

Yes, I am having the same problems. I called EDF today three times and did not get through to talk to someone.

It is a shame as they used to be quite good at customer servicing.

I'm bumping this to see if anyone is having any problems getting through to EDF customer service as I have still been unable to get through to them. I have had to resort to phoning the number for "calling from abroad", speaking to someone there who then has to put me through to someone who can help me. They keep denying there is a problem with their phone system but I simply cannot get to speak to a customer service rep on their 0800 096 9000 number. I just go into a queueing system that just leads nowhere except playing the most god awful mournful music over and over again and after half an hour of this have to hang up as the music is driving me insane. I have done this at least a dozen times since my post above.

The last time I phoned the calling from abroad number I was put through to a supposedly senior manager who said there were slight phone problems but they weren't aware of problems as bad as I was experiencing. It was also hinted that I should stop using this route to speak to them and should dial the number I can never get through to.

I then see threads in this forum where people say they've contacted EDF and don't seem to indicate they had any problems getting through. Can anyone who is with EDF and who has phoned them since July please comment on whether they had any problems getting through and confirm they phoned the 0800 096 9000 number? I really do not know why I cannot get beyond being placed in a queue - I feel that if I didn't hang up after half an hour or so I would be holding on all day. I have never known anything as bad as this.

I should move on to another company but can't be bothered with the hassle of doing so but I'm at a loss as to why a company I have had an account with for years and who I never had problems getting through to have suddenly become absolutely impossible to get through to on the phone. I have ongoing problems with my account that I simply can never get resolved successfully due to this problem of not being able to contact them.
  • Hi,
just thought I would say that I called them as soon as I got home from work the other day around 5.20 and the automated system was driving me mad so I rang back and entered my customer number incorrectly. I got put straight through to a customer service person! I am not sure why this worked, but I will be doing this in the future because I hate going through the sutomated system!

Almost a year later and once again I am unable to get through to EDF.

Can anyone who is with EDF please tell me if they can get through to customer services at all?
  • I have been trying to speak with a human being at EDF for 2 weeks now and on average hold for 20-40 minutes before having to give up!
All because they have cocked up my direct debit payments which I keep trying to sort, they don't reply to my emails (even the complaints manager) and then try to send me a bill for £540!!!
I'm not sure what is happening to EDF, they used to be really good.
I have taken the 4 complaints I have made to the ombudsman.
I'll let you know how I get on

Called today around 9am. Entered customer number and waited approx 5 minutes in the queue before being answered.

I was going to join them but they are NOT interested in the fact that their systems are crap. Not only is it almost impossible to contact anyone but they send me an Email welcoming me to EDF and saying paperwork would follow in days.

I finally actual spoke to a human today and discovered that I am not even registered that I applied. Best advise to anyone is to stay clear, an amateur French outfit who could not care less.

Its really strange that I see lots of people unable to get through to EDF, yet whenever I call I always go straight through - no problems! I called yesterday to up my direct debit, the whole phone call lasted 3 minutes, no waiting at all! I always call on my lunch hour though and wouldn't try after work times as I imagine these are their busiest times.

You should try e-mailing them. 3 days I have been waiting and the auto reply says it could be 10. An hour or two on the phone is simples!

The had me on hold for 15 minutes yesterday.

Looks like EDF is yet another case where a spineless government regulator refuses to force a companiy to stop providing tenth rate service in exchange for its licence to print money.
