Ebay item not received

I do so love other sellers using recorded as it gives me a lot more sales as my postage as basic 2nd class looks so much better.
Recorded is not suitable for paypal anymore though as it rarely gets a signature on delivery so you would still lose a paypal chargeback, and you've paid an extra 74p for the privelege.
I agree aslong as the item value is below the compensation limit £40ish? Proof of posting all that is required and recorded delivery is a bit of a waste. If item is above 20 I do send recorded simply because ebay will be likely to side with me if I have a tracking number and making a RM claim is a bit more of a longwinded protracted hassle than entering a tracking id into the paypal dispute. Just out of interest, do you know if the compensation limit is the same for 2nd class as it is 1st?0 -
It's the same. But ebay will not be more likely to side with you simply by having a tracking number. Online verification of delivery - yes.0

It is actually 15 working days and no buyer is going to wait that long! As for signing bits of paper, that isup to the seller if they wish to do that, however a buyer can get a refund without signing anything and a seller needs to be careful they don't look like they are trying to dodge a refund as that will just end up with them being negged.
OP when did you pay? Personally I would wait about 10 days from payment date (not posting date) and then open a basic dispute in paypal merely pointing out that your item has failed to arive. Then maybe escalate that to a full chargeback a couple of days later depending on what seller responds with.
I paid for the item on 12/08 it was £30.00 + postage through paypal. The seller infromed me that it was going to be posted on 16/08/10 but had not stated in the listing if it was being sent 1st or 2nd class. I contacted the seller on 20/08 to check if it had been posted and was told that it had been sent 1st class on 16/08. I've now received a further message from the seller stating that Royal Mail have said that they can't do anything until 15 days after posting. Any advice on how to proceed would be appreciated. I'm not sure whether I should ask the seller for a refund or contact ebay/paypal to open a dispute. Thank you.0 -

Right now the seller has shown their 'hand' so to speak I would take a firm stance. Log into paypal, find the transaction and open a full chargeback for item not received. Just state clearly 'item has not been received' and leave the chargeback running.
A seller that even mentions the 15 working days he has to wait isn't worth corresponding with any further, that's his problem not yours.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. 1st and 2nd class, also airmail has a basic compensation limit of £41, this excludes some items like jewellery, cash, vouchers etc.
Using recorded for items will not assist you in any way with an ebay or paypal claim unless it shows online as delivered and that address is the one that paypal gave you. Items over £41, or those not covered standard mail need special or a couriered service.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Thanks for the reply - in the message I received from the seller he/she did actually say "my hands are tied until the end of the month". I've not done anything yet as I'm slightly confused as to whether I should raise a dispute with both paypal and ebay.0 -

Just raise it with paypal as per my post, any issues the seller has is not your problem.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If the seller doesn't refund within 24 hours of the dispute being opened, I'd be putting a red dot on their account for it as well, they're just being uncooperative.Back on MSE after a 5 year hiatus.

Hi, thanks for the replies. I've just gone into paypal to raise the dispute - it asks for the category for the item purchased but none on the drop down menu apply to the item I purchased (it was a handbag). Can someone please advice me what category to choose (see below)? It also gives me the option of sending a message to the seller - shall I include one or just leave this blank? Cheers
(What it says in paypal is - Provide Additional Information, What is the catergory of your purchase? then there's a drop down menu and the options are as follows - Computer Hardware/Software, Jewellery, Antiques/Collectables, Entertainment -Related Goods, Other Physical Goods, Travel, Service, Virtual Goods - delivered electronically, Other Non-Physical Goods, Tickets For Events. It then gives me the option of leaving a message for the seller.)0 -
Hi, further to my previous post can somebody advice me what purchase category to select so that I can raise a dispute with paypal. I've tried paypal help pages and googled this but can't be sure which one to choose. Thanks0
