I want to start making my own candles but need a good supplier of materials and some basic knowledge eg what size wicks to use
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

Since I got my slow cooker and breadmaker I have been enjoying cooking much more.

Love to read and am across the road from my local library.

Started to knit just before Christmas and have now made three fluffy scarves! DDs were very impressed.

Started to hand quilt years ago but it ended up as a large cot quilt!

  • Well I'd certainly recommend learning the guitar. You can sound "proficient" in a very short time and spend hours and hours entertaining yourself. It's amazing what you can do and how many different songs you can play with just three chords...

I have been playing awhile and dh took up the banjo last year - luckily dh's family is a bit musical so we get together and play for a laugh, much cheaper than going out for a meal or down to the pub.

You are never too old to start - my 73 yr old mum took up banjo and guitar in her late 60's and is doing pretty well! She had no natural musical ability, (nor do I) And she has arthritis!

There are usually beginning guitar courses offered at your local community centre or college, our teensy village hall even offers them.

Plus if you are ever really skint, you can go busking! I used to busk in Hereford and made around £10-15 an hour and I was really not that good! Of course it could have been pity money. Thinking about it, it probably was!:p

Hobbies wise birdwatching and fishkeeping are great, and you can do them indoors or outdoors. British Trust for Conservation Volunteers is excellent for meeting people and doing something useful, and you can go on quite cheap holidays that way. Apparently the Brownies are short of adult leaders if you're that way inclined. Two things I intend to check out this year are the Woodcraft Folk and getting an allotment - loads of veggies, mmm! Anyone had any involvement with Woodcraft?

Used to be a leader for woodcraft folk ....well worth doing

I'm going to learn to sew :)

I've been practicing stitching in straight lines today on an old sheet - tomorrow I might see if I can find some real material and make some cushions from old pillows - or a basic tablecloth because I dont have one

I'd love to be able to make my own clothes - even if it was just taking shop bought ones and making them into a perfect fit
