They really shouldn't need emptying this often unless your dogs have a problem.0 -

Good Luck OP.

Stinky brown fluid which I have seen described on an American Beagle website as smelling of 'fishy nickels' which pretty much sums it up - it's a very strong smell too.
Revolting! And not nice when it appears on furniture, carpets or worse!:j Almost 2 stones gone! :j

The look on his face when they're done is one of pure bliss, sort of like popping a sore zit
Must forewarn you tho, get lots of kitchen roll or bog roll to hand cos the stuff can squirt out with a bit of force! So sort of cup your hand up a bit to catch the doings, sort of looks like a cross between weetabix and shredded wheat.
Apologies to weetabix and shreddies fans :rotfl:
*goes and chucks out the weetabix in the cupboard......*Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500 -
The resulting issue can in my experience, look anything from a beige liquid, to a dark brown or black paste
Nothing to stop you doing it yourself once you have been shown how. I use my hand in an inside out dog poo bag. that way the issue just squirts over the bag which can then be turned right way round and tied up before binning.

My cat has just had her anal glands removed
but we are now £701 worse off.
We are waiting for the insurance to pay out though so fingers crossed we were covered.
We spent years having her glands emptied on a regular basis. It was on here that we learnt that we could either do it ourselves (after being shown to by a vet) or get the veterinary nurse to do it instead which is cheaper than the vet.
I would ask the vet to show you (as others saying getting it wrong could either cause your dog harm or you sould risk being covered in stink juice  )- our vet showed us but unfortunately our cat was not at all compliant with us (probably because they were enormous and painful- apparently the size of a border collies when they were removed).
These links are quite helpful for beginners.

No, don't worry - it is only if they have problems (and you would know if they did). I never even heard of it before until our cat started leaking stink juice onto us. It really is the worst smell I have ever smelt and it is impossible to get rid of without chucking everything into a very hot wash.
