whats the point in paying for it when you might get it here free
  • I would just like to say that almost every dealer who does the PDI (pre delivery inspection) on a new car before delivery will write down the radio code and pass it on to the new car admin department, although this is not fool proof if you can find the selling dealer of the car and ask to be put through to the new car admin. just act a little bit slow give them the registration date of the car and the reg and they my give you the code, failing that sometimes they will ask you to fax the request and then they may fax it back to you.
Hope this helps some of you

Highly specific this one, but when you need it it can save a lot of money.

Following a repair for accident damage my radio was left locked. On contacting the dealer I bought the car from I was told that they had no record of the radio code and that it would cost £25 plus VAT to get it for me (nice little earner for them this one, which I refused to pay on principle!).

Anyway I went radioless for a few months, but had a trip to do and wanted the radio. So after a bit of a search yesterday, I found:

    http://www.dekodes.com/

This allows you to enter your radio serial number and for a CC payment of £5.88 (this was for a Blaupunkt radio) it will immediately tell you the code. Worked very well indeed. You need to register and provide a 'company name', though I just put in 'no company'.

The only problem I had was extracting the radio itself. In the end I found some help using a google search, but essentially there are 4 grub screws that I needed to extract using a tamper proof screwdriver bit (you can get a set of these at screwfix for £9.99, but probably an allen key would work). Removing these provides 4 holes into which you need to insert 4 small screwdrivers or similar (I used some wooden kebab sticks) whereupon you can pull the radio out by pulling carefully at the cassette slot.

I bought a programme off a guy on Ebay for £5.99 when I needed the code for mine. It works fine and now I can decode anyone elses too. Anyone need a code? I'll tell you it for free! Just need serial number and model of stereo...

Amendment - I can't do Philips, Peugeot or Renault stereos. Seems software decoders don't work for these...

Any Fords though are no problem!
    Hi timmo,
I know your post is a bit old now, so I understand if your goodwill is exhausted. If it isn't, is there any chance of you getting a code for a Rover stereo for me?
    The serial no is RG710FS8013332
The make is just stated as "Rover".
Thanks very much for any help you may be able to give me.
  • Thought i would add a small point to this thread. Not sure how many people will read it because as soulstar said its a relatively old discussion but thought i would post on the off chance. I have spent a lot of time fitting, fixing and swapping stereos of various makes between cars over the years. Ready to be shot down of anybody disagrees but i found the following was helpful.

If you don't have the code for your radio it is often written in the service logbook as part of the dealers pre delivery inspection (PDI) prior to delivery when new. Sometimes also in the car manual folder there will be a card with the code printed on it (normally size of a credit card). Obviously these are only useful if the car still has the service log and/or manual with it.

if you do have the code, i found the best way to remember the code is to write it on the stereo casing in permanent marker. Not exactly safe but if you're unlucky enough to have your stereo stolen it's a moot point anyway.

Another tip if you have the code and the original manual for your stereo check the instructions as it is sometimes possible to disarm the code so the stereo will work if the battery is disconnected for repairs without having to re insert the code every time. I'm not sure on how many models this works for but can remember phillips stereo from a Rover 200 from around 1994 allows this option. Again the security is removed but i found that most thieves ignore factory fit stereos and go for after market units every time. This might not be a nationwide trend but in Aberdeen it's what i've found. Newer cars with unusual shaped factory fit stereos might mean this is not the case so will stop there.

    Hope this helps somebody/anybody.

  • Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, I need the code for a 1998 BMW Philips radio. The dealers have quoted me £25 which is extortionate! I hope you guys can help

    SN: PH7850W1407652

I don't know if the following numbers are relavent, but they are printed on the unit.

    AT009837407652

    BE72 318IS 2TRL M44

    Many thanks in advance!
  • use 2 pieces of cut up coathanger wire bent into a u-shape to push into the 4 corner holes to remove stereos in order to read the codes.

    https://www.dekodes.com costs about 6 quid.

anyone know free program that works on philips?
  • I must resurrect this thread as i have bought my fiancee a nice silver vectra with phillips ccr600 cd changer but the cd part is locked with a "07 SAFE" message!!!! AHHH!!!! I've called the garage i bought it from and get the impression he' not too bothered. is there any hope?

I have read all entries but nothing seems to deal with my case, where i have both codes (one for radio, one for cd changer) but am already locked out for too many wrong entries.
