Car Radio Unlocking

Daughter has a T reg Ka which boasts a state of the art radio and cassette player . Being of this new techno generation she decided she wanted a new radio which would allow her to play C.D.s and couple her mp3 to it so she went and bought one off the 'net safe in the knowledge that she could get the old man to fit it.
Well I had a look at it yesterday and was immediately confronted with a problem. New radio is the standard dimensions, (6 or 7 inches wide and a couple of inches tall ?), the incumbent Ford radio has a fascia which incorporates part of the dashboard and is oblongish in shape. I decided against my normal Heath Robinson response utilising corn flake packets and sticky backed tape on the grounds of aesthetic beauty and security and went to the local Ford dealer to see if some sort of blanking plate is available.
The good news is that they can supply a kit to cater for this problem within a day.
The bad news is that it will set me back, "about 32 quid".
I consider this to be a bit on the steep side but unfortunately I was not able to view his monitor as he was finding the aforementioned kit else I would have made a mental note of the part number and done a Google on it myself.
Can anyone suggest where I may be able to obtain one of these kits at a more competitive price in this credit crunch era please ?0 -
Halfords sell the fascia plate for a standard DIN radio. So do many online retailers. The man without a signature.0

Once again the combined resources of this site have got me out of the fertiliser.
Thanks Poppy9, that link was just what the doctor ordered. £8-23 is a lot better in my book than "About £32 quid".
Whatever they're paying you, it's not enough.0 -
Hi RegWorts, Thanks for the prompt reply; do you know if there are any other Philips databases around which might contain the code or is yours pretty up-to-date (i.e. is my only option now an EEPROM dump?). Thanks again for your help0

My database is one of the smaller ones as they have to be purchased (ie they do not appear in the free downloads or CDs offered on Ebay !)
Your code should be available from the Serial Number in one of the larger databases and so try emailing restoredclassic@aol.com to see if they can help.( They do have a larger database than mine )
They have recently started to request for a small PayPal donation for these Philips codes (and also Grundig ..).but the other makes are free
This donation request is to try and stop the abusers and car radio thieves but is refundable if the code does not work.(Which not many decode services offer !)
If they cannot help , then it will have to be an EEPROM dump read...the cheapest option is usually your Car Radio / Audio Shop who normally charge around £10 or £15
Good luck !0 -
