Not sure which one is the serial number .

Your code will only be available from a reseller or the device will be assigned to a radio decoding specialist.

My car is a Ford Focus 2001.
Just had a new battery fitted and need a code to unlock the stereo.
Pressing 1 and 6 gives me MGP DJS 4-08 or it could be MGP DJ 54-08.

Can anyone help ?

That is not the serial number.

Sometimes pressing buttons 1 and 6 or 2 and 6 together will display it. If not the radio will have to be removed to find it on the label on the back. It will be a M or V followed by six numbers. Post that serial number and we can find the code for you.
