thanks Regworts for info the radio is in a vauxhall astra from new i dont know if that makes a differance? but will try dealers and will ring a few of them to get best price if it costs more than radio is worth i will install a cd player at some point. many thanks to everyone that gave me advice :T

Thanks for this - but do you know what to do if there appears to be no power to the stereo? Can't even get the thing to switch on!!!
