Repeatedly press button 1 until the correct first digit of the code is displayed.
Repeatedly press button 2 until the correct second digit of the code is displayed.
Repeatedly press button 3 until the correct third digit of the code is displayed.
Repeatedly press button 4 until the correct fourth digit of the code is displayed.

STOP!
Do not do anything . You are using the code from a 'book' but is the book from the right car? Has the radio been changed ...... we don't know.
So go back to basics , remove radio from dashboard and check for the sticker ( often yellow ) on the top of radio.
Do you know how to remove radio??0 -

good point. I assumed it was right because I bought the car from a ford dealer, and all the books seemed well organized and updated. however, especially this book looks like it is for a more advanced system with Navigation. So you could possibly be right.
Could you please give me a hint on how to remove the radio ?0 -

But a wire coathanger works well. Cut the hanger at the corners to produce two loops.
Push well into the two holes ( 3 inches??) then push wire sideways slightly and pull loops towards you.0 -
Correct 'keys' are from Halfords , cost £6
Ebay about £3
You could do an ebay search , Ford radio keys , would give you an idea what they look like.
e.g u-shaped wire.
Just a hint. you have to give the wire a good push , the 'catches' are 3 or 4 inches in .
You can't do any damage , the wire goes outside the chassis of the radio0 -
