Why is this laptop unsuitable for broadband dongles?

If it's just because of the 512 MB of RAM, could this not be swapped for a 1GB stick?

Probably because it does not have any USB2 ports, and it certainly isn't worth £130.

I've got a 512MB pentium IV that runs a mobile dongle no probs. But the clockspeed is 2.5GHz, which is a tad more difficult to upgrade.

    Also;

    Typical system requirement:
    Configuration (Recommended):
    CPU
    1GHz Pentium or above
    Hard Disk
    20GB or above
    RAM
    512M or above
The performance of the modem may be reduced if the system
    requirements are not me

Take a look at this Zoostorm Freedom Netbook - 10.2" screen for £144 instead.

It will outperform that pile of junk in every way. It will be 'as new'.

    1) CPU isn't up to it - broadband dongles do a lot in software
    2) No USB2 ports.
    3) Don't think it'll take 1GB sticks.

At the IT clearance auctions I went to yesterday, similar spec laptops were being sold for £2-£10 because thats all they're worth.

dont need any usb ports if you use a myfi unit you can fit a wifi card in the pcmcia port and it will work on the net ok for basic internet surfing etc.

That sounds like an expensive solution, doesn't it?

I think that you forgot about the PCMCIA card. The thing is a piece of junk.
Hammyman is close to the mark when it comes to the value.
To suggest another spend of another £70 to £80 on the original price of £130 to get mobile broadband Internet access is the height of ridiculousness.

New netbook £144. USB modem £20.

    Why?

£49 for myfi + £7.50 for wifi card = £56.50 when i was at school and if you can share the cost of the internet it would work out cheaper and dont say the height of ridiculousness.

YOU RECOMEND THIS ???? HAVE YOU LOOKED AT THE REVIEWS ????

I have purchsed 24 of them and all but 2 have given problems so i have given up selling them.
