QOTW: Overseas withdrawals

How about withdraw money from UK base bank which has international office in Thailand. Say for instance Go to one of HSBC Branch, RBS (if any available) and then do cash withdrawal from their cash machines?
Is there any charge?
For HSBC advance or Premium ac holder there should not me any charge for ATM withdrawal using their debit card anywhere in the world.Hi - As Thailand now introduce a withdrawl fee of 150thb (£3) can you tell me if this is still the cheapest way to withdraw money in this country or should i consider Paypal or something else. I would look to be sending £100 each month to a Thai bank account
- Thanks :beer:0 -

With only one HSBC branch in the whole of Thailand, it might not be a viable option for most.

Thank you Donnie for your suggestion.Unfortunately,I live in the North, and as yet, there are no Metro Banks anywhere near me.Not as far as I know, anyway. If I have got the gist of what you say correct,I take it that I can transfer my pay into FairFx Anywhere to top it up,and thus be able to make ATM cash withdrawals in India?
Adindas, much as you seem to be trying to be helpful, which is appreciated,I have already stated that I do not have a debit card or a credit card.If I had either, then I would not have to worry because I could then withdraw cash from an ATM in India, albeit for a small charge by Nationwide. So,it stands to reason, that if I do not have a credit card from one financial organisation,I am not likely to apply for any other financial institution's credit card such as Santander's Zero Credit Card.
Much as your suggestion of setting up standing orders to transfer funds is a nice one, unfortunately,Nationwide will not play ball with setting up weekly standing orders. And when I spoke to the Co-Op Travel Service who sell the previously mentioned Traveller's Cash Passport, they told me that I have to first pre-load it from here, and when I asked them if I could then subsequently transfer funds from my Nationwide bank account to re-load that Cash Passport, they told me that I'd have to be in the UK to re-load it up again, which had me bewildered as it makes absolutely no sense, considering that I would already be abroad by then.
Additionally,I will not have a laptop with me,and even if I did have one,the part of India that I'm travelling to and staying in is still on a dial-up service, and even that is subject to a hit or miss. For a cyber cafe,I have to go to a major city, and then there is the time difference, and from past experiences, attempts at trying to contact a banksperson here in the Uk has proved to be a totally futile exercise as they will not deal with somebody from abroad.
Nevertheless,I thank you both for the time and trouble you have taken for your suggestions.0 -

Yes, this is correct. Do not consider any other kind of PrePaid card, especially the one that you mentioned. They have rather nasty hidden charges.
Of course if you don't have Internet access, you won't know exactly when the payment has actually been credited to the card.
So you should also have a plan B.0 -
When I made enquiries with Santander about the Zero card today, guess what? It turns out to be it is NOT a pre-paid or pre-loaded cash card or anything of that sort.It is in fact a straightforward credit card under a different guise. As I eschew having any kind of credit cards, etc, needless to say, that was the end of that avenue.
So,adindas' suggestion of a Santander Zero Card was a way off-beam,for anyone like me not having a credit card or wishing to have one,and having stated so in my posting but nevertheless seeking to draw cash overseas. Not exactly helpful.
I'm trying to sort out a Plan B option before making the committal to the FairFx Anywhere card.Pity there isn't a Newcastle Building Society branch anywhere near me to obtain one.0 -
You did no read the previous Post. I believe majority of people in this forum know that Santader Zero is Credit Card. I never say that Santander Zero is Pre-Paid Card either. My suggestion spend some times reading this forum, rather then keep blaming people of your misunderstanding.
I have Santander Zero, when I travell abroad I always get Mastercard wholesale conversion rate, with the way as I describe above.

I suggest you write in a better form of English that is understandable to all instead of full of grammatical/spelling errors. That way then there will be no misunderstanding of your posts, and the correct thread of your posting can be understood.
"About PrePaid CC, I have tried it with Santander Zero Cridet Card"
What is this if it does not allude to a Santander Zero Credit Card being a Pre-Paid Credit Card?
If you are going to make a helpful posting, then do it in the correct grammar which is clearly discernible!0 -
Help.
My reading of Saga' Platinum C.C. usage statements on page 8 - "Getting Cash with ny Saga credit card....................A cash advance will apply, unless your account has a credit balance greater than the total amount of the cash advance............................" suggests one can load the card before going abroad and thus save the withdrawal fee.
I cannot see anything that says you cannot.
Anyone else read it this way before I phone Allied Irish Bank for info?0 -

The Saga/Liverpool Victoria credit cards were/are one of the few cards that actually encourage this behaviour.
Liverpool Victoria used to actually pay you interest on your credit balance.
In addition, they didn't charge interest on cash withdrawals if you paid your bill in full. This still applies to the Saga Platinum. The also don't have any Forex charges worldwide.
Though I don't remember if pre-loading actually prevented the cash withdrawal fee.
The Liverpool Victoria CC is long gone. Now run by Barclaycard.
You oldies have got it good.
