Cheapest unlimited Data fo UK visit

Hi,

I'm an ex-pat currently residing in the BVI, I'm visiting the UK in Sept, but being in IT support, really need an unlimited data SIM to access email, and possibly provide remote support to clients back in the BVI whilst I'm here from my smartphone, and also my laptop which accepts a SIM for data.

Are there any PAYG SIMs currently offering unlimited data for a month, for a fixed price?

If they also have cheap international calls, that would be a bonus, but the data is the critical one!

I heard there was a T-mobile unlimited data PAYG SIM for 5 GBP per week!! two or three of them would be great!

I've looked on their site but no joy - anyone know if it's still available, or of any other similar deals?

Thanks,

Dom

well that would be fine for around 3 weeks of just email and remote login (i.e. browsing) amounts of data.

How's 3's network been this last 2 years since i left? I was pretty non-existent in North Wales, where I'll be spending half my time, but good in the East Mids, where I'll be spending the rest of it.
  • On the right hand side of the page on this link (clicky) is a network coverage checker for Three. It should give you a good idea of whether there are any gaps in the signal where you're going.

Are 3 still selling the £15 per month / 1 month at a time SIM only deal with 1GB data?

That's what I have on my handsets. Walked into a 3 store in February and bought the last one.

Where 3 mobile coverage is poor, their SIMs automatically roam on Orange if available.

Not sure about Sim only but you can get a USB dongle with a months use / 1gb of data for £30.

Then again many pubs/ hotels and Cafes have free wifi, maybe the OP can use that?

Would like to say thanks to all for their help. The 3 15GBP one sounds great, as Orange is coverage is good where I'm going, but Neil's message also gave an excellent solution.

Unfortunately Free WiFi spots aren't much use as I'm expecting it to be for urgent email requiring attention, adn support calls during the middle of the night due to the time differences :)

Anyone know how the operators can determine whether you're tethering or not??

And if your laptop accepts a SIM card, is that classed as tethering...? hmmm....

They can tell when they see mass amounts of data being used.

Devices identify themselves in the form of an IMEI number whilst most UK networks don't care if you change devices it does mean they can do a lookup on the IMEI to work out the device in use.

That said if your using an effectivly anonymous service ie paid and topped up in cash and in person for the SIM or dongle I doubt they'd get too shirty in the three weeks, and if they do, so what, get another one.
