A horribly expensive mistake :(

Same thing happened to my d-i-l - she said she had pulled over before she picked up the phone but the police said that her engine was still running so technically .................. sickening especially when you see people every day really acting dangerously, driving round bends and roundabout with a phone at their ear but the laws the law and its there to save lives.0

may or may not have noticed insurance always ask for the past 5 years!!! so it doesnt matter how long its on your licence for (though less than 5 years for this offence)
My insurance went DOWN...yes DOWN when I got 6 points...work that one out. (I did a qoute with points and a qoute without and it was 30 quid cheaper than without points)If you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -

If you'd read my post you'd have seen that I clearly acknowledge that what I did was wrong. I certainly do not need a lesson in morality.
No?
You attempt to trivialize your actions by stating "I do feel like I've been particularly unlucky, I thought that given the situation I may have just got a ticking off".
Yes you acknowledge that what you did was wrong and dangerous, but I don't think you really appreciate that people DIE because people try to trivialize their use of mobile phones and other devices whilst driving.
I see it every day, whether it's fiddling with the sat nav or chatting on the phone or even sending a text, so do forgive my cynicism.
I do hope you learn from this experience before you kill someone in the future, as everyone always thinks that it won't happen to them until the fateful day that it does.0 -

OP stated:
10 years and it's the first time she's been pulled? I don't think she's a candidate for dangerous driving. It's the first time I've even been stopped in 10 years let alone fined/got points and I found it so upsetting
She answered her phone and pulled over straight away. Not like half the idiots we see on a daily basis who take calls on motorways, read maps whilst driving, etc etc. So what's with the preaching?
She made a mistake, admitted to it and asked for advice.
If you want to preach, why not do so at a local church? If you're not going to contribute to the actual question asked, you're being unhelpful.0 -
If someone comes and askes a direct question for advice, why should they have to take it with the usual preachy gibberish from the most insincere of nosey, two-pence interrupting pricks that litter this otherwise decent forum?
Because of the OP's attitude that they were a little bit silly and their attempt to trivialize their actions.
Perhaps one day you should come out on the back of the bike with this "nosey, two-pence interrupting !!!!!". You can then play "spot the mobile phone" and see people turning at junctions without indicating or breaking suddenly when they don't see the lights change. You too can marvel when you spot drivers swerving across multiple lanes of busy city centre traffic whilst entering stuff into their sat nav...0 -

I don't drive - so I don't think I will.
The point isn't what the action was. The OP admitted it wasn't big or clever and asked for advice on how to pay.
She didn't state "I veered widely along three lanes of traffic whilst giving the finger to mothers with pushchairs; one hand on my mobile and the other on a sat nav".
She stated that she had made a mistake and asked advice on how to pay the fine. How dare she!
P.S. - Know what we call motorcyclists in the NHS?

What a thoroughly nasty thing to say. You're not helping the situation one bit and are just the sort of person we don't need on these forums.0 -
Fiddlestick wrote: »And how many times have they answered the phone and carried on driving before they eventually got caught?
The answer is never. My phone was on the passenger seat and started ringing. I picked it up purely as a reaction to it ringing without even thinking about it. I put the phone in my lap and pulled over safely as soon as I realised what I had done. I'm happy to admit I'm not great at multi tasking and wouldn't drive while on the phone simply because I can't concentrate on the two things at once and its not safe.0
