Charging for MAC

V21 want to charge me £30 for the MAC - is this normal? It seems a bit of a rip off to me. I want to leave to get a better package - PIPEX seem good at the moment (I'm not in the right area for CPW)

If they won't give it for free just ring to cancel instead. They can tell you when the internet will be cut off and then you can sign up for PIPEX. It may mean you lose connection for a few days. I believe if you ring PIPEX and tell them of this they may be able to give you the BT wholesale number where you can get your MAC code for free. As I believe some ISPs refuse to give the MAC code and people have to go down the wholesale route. But I'd ring PIPEX and since they will want your custom they will tell you how to get around it and if you do have to cancel you other ISP before signing up to theirs, they may be able to time it so that you only lose connection for one or two days.0

thanks for that, I'll give it a go - I work form home so losing access might be a bit of a problem0

Pipex will not be able to help you and BT wholesale will probably refuse to talk to you on this matter as only your ISP can issue a MAC. You either cancel and wait for your line to be cleared or pay the charge which you should have been aware of when you signed up. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

If you've got a second line in the house you could always use that as the one to assign broadband to and then cancel the other broadband once it's complete.
Another solution is to sign up for pay as you go dial up from someone such as BT. It'll work out a lot cheaper if you don't mind slow internet while you switch providers. As you can cancel your current ISP (find out the date it ends) and then a day or two before it's due to end sign up for PIPEX since they will take a week anyway. That just leaves a few days on pay as you go at dialup speed.0 -

Hi
Have you looked at the Pipex forum lately,

And why would you do that? An ISP doesn't have to provide a MAC, free or for a fee.computerwoman wrote:report them to ofcom0
