Sky TV Phone call about Warranty

Last night I received a phone call from Sky asking me did I want to purchase a warranty from them to cover my equipment. They wanted £14 per month to cover this cost. When I told them I thought this was another scam from Sky and when I had first bought Sky no mention was ever made about warranty they then said that they could give me a reduced price of £6 per month and if I made a one off payment I could get it for the special price of £60.

I replied that I was totally disgusted about the whole thing and advised him that I would not be purcahsing any warranty of Sky.

Has anyone else had a similar experience.

It was probably not actually sky but one of a number of companies that pretend to be sky or working on behalf of them trying to sell expensive and usually unneccessery warrenties.

However, even if it was sky what is there to be "disgusted" about? They offered a product and you refused it. Do you also get disgusted when upgrade to broadband or sky movies adverts come through the door or on the tv? They are in business to try make money and that is done by selling its products.

my friend got a phone call too the other night about Sky warranty and it wasn't from Sky at all - they just make out like they are but are a different company.

I doubt whether the real Sky would reduce their prices by so much so quickly anyway!

We had the same call with an area code in the next county.

They said it was to renew existing insurance we had.

£96.00 to renew, reducing by £10.00 a year.

They were that confident in their attitude, that I began to wonder if I did have insurance.

Common sense then kicked in and I told them to "Go forth and multiply"
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

My husband had a call from a company called (Sky) Digital warranty to say that our cover was due to run out on our sky plus box. He thought he would renew and gave his card number over the phone!!!!! When I got home I said that we were covered by Sky Protect (a completely bona fida company). We tried many times to ring Digital warranty to cancel the cover in the first 14 days but only got a recorded message. I phoned the bank to try and cancel the payment but they could not help. In the newt two days £90 was taken to cover the year. I phoned Trading Standards and they gave me an address supposedly for the company. I wrote to them and sent it registered post (£5) to ask for a refund. They wrote back and asked for a warranty reference as they could not find any account under my name, I of course did not have this as I had not received any paper work.

I am hoping the bank will give me the merchant address as they allowed them to take the money out of my account even I asked them to stop it, but they said they could not. I complained and they still said that they could not do anything.

Has anyone else been scammed by this company. Now it has become more about the principal than the money. My husband who normally leaves these things to me thought he was helping. He has said that he will never give card details over the phone unless he has made the call first.
