I use an MP3 player and am always concerned I have it on too loud.

Music is a personal choice and I wouldn't be so inconsiderate to play it so loud others can hear it.

I absolutely loathe people playing music through their phones out loud. I'm not easily annoyed, but those people really do aggrevaite me so much, that I sometime say something or make it clear my disgust at them with a dirty look.

What's worse is the language that some of the music contains and it's not only adults playing that sort of music. If I had under teenage kids with me, I most certainly would make more of a fuss than now.

I use a pair of sound isolating earphones. These are great to use on the bus for two reasons.

    1) Because you it blocks outside noise you need less volume (safer for you)
    2) The music hardly leaks out so knowboby hears your music.

I bought mine from www.soundwise.co.uk I found them to be better value than anywhere else. They also do cool little cards that they will give you for free if you email them, or when you buy. The card basically says "Keep your music personal!" and has a £5 off code. Its basically a add for them. I have handed a couple of card out to people on the bus. Its much less confrontational. In fact they said thanks and also turned their music down.

Got stuck in a bad traffic jam for over 1/2 hour one day, with the guy in a Cavalier beside me pounding out tinny dance music. Glaring at him had no effect- but I'd just redone the install on my car. :)

Obituary at over 100dB did the trick. :)

9 times out of 10 this is down to people using the Apple headphones that come bundled with iPods/iPhones. They are absolutely shocking for leaking sound. My husband and I both commute and sometimes travel together. When he got his iPhone, I kept pointing it out when I could hear what he was watching/listening to. I tried his headphones and he really didn't have the music very loud at all. With other headphones, no-one would have heard anything. In the end he got so fed up with my glares he bought replacement headphones which are much better. :)

The only way people know what I'm listening to is if I start singing... It really bugs me when you can tell from several seats away !! If I can take out my headphones and still hear the music I know its too loud... not rocket science. People are just inconsiderate.
