  • Thanks again ampersand :)

Re the back pain, I've been to the doctors twice and they think it's muscular, and have suggested Ibuprofen. Hope it will get better soon, but the doctor said it may take time.

Played 18 holes of pitch n put with my dad today, which may or may not help my back...

Saw a nice little Clio on eBay earlier (I know this goes against the plan) but it looked quite good value - full service history, 45k miles, tax + test, and only a 1.2L engine so fairly economical, hmm...

Will prob scrap the above idea soon

  • Ok, I've scrapped the car ownership idea (it didn't last long). Think it was down to having too much time on my hands. It would only mean taking on a liability and pushing home ownership further away from me.

mw - glad you've had a good day with Dad. Golf will have given your back a work-out like no other:-)

Sorry that I don't think that result is good enough from your Dr. It's as much as any 2 people meeting at a bus-stop and starting to chat might say, if one spoke about having a dodgy back.

Back pain is debilitating and disabling. It is a major trigger of downward mind-set hormones, damaging one's sense of wellbeing, apart from the worsening inflammation caused by continuing muscular strain and stresses. Have you tried swimming since it came on? When were you first aware of it? If you leave it to become low-level embedded, a constant, you will be giving yourself a long-term problem.

I know how hard it is to return to the surgery, but please do so. I am in a small country village: even so, we have an excellent sports clinic accessible, with skeleto-muscular referrrals and specialist nurses, male and female.

I love Clio's too - but not practical for me. Have to load up for London antiques market most Thursdays.

Stay strong of aim, mw - enjoy the rest of your week off.

My mattress question was a genuine one. It is the most important thing you can do to ensure you are not giving yourself back trouble and there is proper advice available from reputable stores e.g. John Lewis. They do need renewing eventually and we are all guilty of thinking it doesn't matter, it can do for ages yet...

  • I've not been swimming since it started, although I may go tomorrow and see if it helps, thanks. The gp did say that there is the option of physio, but to try the anti-inflammatorys as a first base.

  • The mattress I have was here when I moved in, so that was Jan 2012. I've tried turning it etc, but it seems to be ok...also, the slaths seem fine too. I'm guessing I've torn a muscle somehow, unbeknownst to me at the time, and it's taking some time in healing due to the constant unavoidable use in pretty much every daily task (or that's what I was told by the GP). :)

Hi MW I'm still trying to catchup on all the thread - how long did it take you to pay it all back?

  • I can't remember exactly, but I think it was roughly 2 years in total - I was living with my parents then and so had much more surplus income. Are you over-paying on any of your debts?

  • No not yet but going to be in that position in my next pay check (30th August ) :-)
Worth me explaining that not all of my £14k debt is bad debt so to speak

£8.5k - bad debt that I have defaulted on
£2.5k - education loan paying back by DD £111pm over 24 months
£3.5k - debt I owe myself from my 2nd job ( I spent it going out rather than saving an emergency fund/paying debt off... I am so gutted as u don't calculate the weekly £40 here and there building up!!! My bad debt could now be at £5k :-( )

So I am currently working on the £8.5k as critical so that I can start to relate my credit history which takes 6 years to do :-(
