I am currently writing a research report on the reasons why the general public dislike Estate Agent Companies.
I am hoping you can assist me making a list of "What do you really hate about this industry?"
Please share with me what drives you around the bend!!!

The lack of any actual financial training. They seem to give the impression they're trained economists/financial advisers who are best placed to give investment advice. Really, they're just one-trick ponies: buy property, buy property, buy property.0

They are well known for their mastery of lying. If estate agents told the truth more, they might not be so disliked.Don't Panic - and carry a towel

EA who come round your house and tell you how wonderful it is and say "lets get this house sold" only to not produce a viewer in all the time they market. EA need to be a little more honest about how things are. It is always interesting when you first market with them, they ramp your asking price up and then tell you it is overpriced and a reduction is needed. Move to another EA and they say "market it at a lower price" creating the false perception when you get viewers that they are doing somethig better when in fact it is the price drop which has warmed people up.
Also lying. Do you advertise in X paper each week. We certainly do! cue a copy of this weeks paper, goves to ea and ask where the hell they feature.0 -
Charging pretty vast amounts of money for being little more than an introduction agency.0

Estate agents are no different to any other sales person who works on commission.0

House buying/selling is a very stressful time, and when things aren't going to plan it is easy to blame the EA for all the problems.
Also, a lot of the work that the EA does, and overheads etc aren't visible to the seller, so when the bill comes in one lump sum at the end, it seems an incredible amount of money to pay, so there is a perception that EAs are overpaid.0 -
I dislike EAs about as much as I dislike someone who makes 4 totally unrelated posts (mainly travel..) then asks an implausible question, ill-drafted.
Sigh!
Student or Troll???

So no bias there then."What do you really hate about this industry?"
I don't hate estate agents or the industry, and have found most of them to be reasonable people caught between some very unreasonable buyers and sellers, as the whole process brings out the very worst in people.
But that's not what you wanted to hear, is it?

Often their total lack of knowledge - forget knowing the history of the property; I've had plenty who open the room to the door, poke their head in and then turn around and proclaim - "this is the bathroom"
well no Sh*t Sherlock!
