X Factor - New Series

Options
Ok my turn to rant.

I have no problem with the many thousands of people seeing this talent show as a opportunity to become rich and famous.

But why the incessant weeping and hard luck stories? Nevermind the autotune mics and the soon to happen overly loud backing vocals.

Its mutated into a huge cringe fest and I couldn't bear to watch it after 30mins. Such a shame, it used to be a pretty decent show.

Luckily I have cable TV and was able to watch less cringing TV.

Rant over.

I no longer have a tv as, IMO, it's not worth the licence fee. Besides I get a lot more done without one!

That said, looking back to when I did watch it, I did become increasingly annoyed with the numerous "sob stories" on various shows. Sixty Minute Makeover and all of the 'talent' type shows are the worst offenders.

I find watching those kind of shows an equivalent to reading "The Sun" newspaper :rotfl:
"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?" (Douglas Adams)
  • I know, people seem to use the shows to tell everyone about their plight! It really annoys me. The most genuine people are those who just get on with things like the rest of us and don't use themselves to get places! Did you hear about the auto-tuning revelation? What a joke!
  • I thought it was awful myself on Saturday i am not keen on the ones who cant sing i dont find it good television at all ,I wouldnt have put a few through that they did .Hope we are going to see some real talent not just people schreeching.

  • Did you hear that they used a computer program to do post production on some of the singers on Saturday. This is taking things too far it is supposed to be a talent show do they really think we are that stupid???

What happens when it comes to the point of people voting - this costs money and the producers are fixing it!!!
  • Yes a lot of it is fixed i am more or less sure they know who will win and who they can make the most money out of.I like to hear the ones who can sing as i like music but some of them are just after the 15 minutes of fame

I agree about the auto-tune being awful. I did read an article a while ago saying that they were going to concentrate less on sob stories, there wasn't really a sob story overkill last week, it was all just padded out with other things. And not to mention the person who sang - or rather made up her own version of Mercy should have been told to stop sooner. I had to mute the TV! It did drag a bit last week.

I'm hoping next week is much better, I usually enjoy X Factor.

Did you also hear about the 'Madonna' girl had alreay had a record deal in the US? There was an article saying the Execs are looking into it and seeing if she'll be disqualified or not - depends on her contract terms.

Controversy already this year! It didn't have any luck with Dani's pregnancy and Cheryl being ill - seemed to be doomed from the start! lol

Auto tune is used more widely than people would like to admit.

I only saw this clip and in this case it is really obvious.

Clearly they have only used auto tune on the girl which means they are choosing which contestants vocals to enhance. (fixing the show?)
It can be used very subtly to the point that you can't really hear it Therefore if they continue to use it the viewers will not be sure who is being "helped" by the shows producers.
  • like a poster above I no longer have TV due to it generally consisting of crap like this.

having said that, my parents watch stuff like this non-stop and from what Ive seen whether people can sing or not is largely irrelevant. Very few people can sing perfectly in pitch without any reference note/backing tune, but does that really matter for something like this? They are essentially after someone who looks good - end of.

I don't agree with them fooling viewers and its particulalry bad if they have used autotune to make people sound worse (!). But the x-factor has little to do with singing really.

We will only watch X-Factor if we get to play the drinking game:

    You each pick a competitor.

    A. If your person bursts into tears at any point, you have to drink a shot.
    B. If your person refers to it being 'an amazing journey' you take a shot.
    C. If your person claims that 'singing is their whole life', you take a shot.
    D. If your person claims that if they 'don't sing, then there is nothing else in their life', you take a shot.
    E. If our person does either C or D and is under the age of 19, you take a double shot.
    F. If your person comes up with a traumatic family secret, the following rules apply:
Dying family member - you have to drink your own shot
Recently dead family member who 'believed in them' - you have to drink the shot of the person to your left.
Adopted/estranged from parents - drink the shot of the person to your right.
Announces on programme that he/she is actually gay - everyone else takes a shot of what you are drinking
Announces a disability or minor physical impediment - everyone (including you) takes their own shot.
Cheryl Cole cries - everyone takes a shot

You can add further cliches depending on the series and episode..... this has the advantage of ensuring that even if you do get forced to watch the whole programme, it will be greatly enhanced by your inebriation, or you might not remember it anyway.
Some days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....
