Unlocking your phone:
If you wish to use another network's SIM, you will need to arrange for it be unlocked. If this is the case, you must not insert another operator's SIM card into the mobile without an unlatching code (which is not your PIN code). We will on request provide an unlatching code after 12 months starting from the date you activated your handset. If you activate your handset and use the Tesco Mobile network for less than 12 months before receiving an unlatching code, we will charge you a fee of £20 to unlock your handset.Stompa0 -
Thanks Stompa,
I had a look at the Tesco Mobile site and couln't find it. Cant believe i overlooked it.0 -
Just get an independent shop to unlock for you, probably cheaper. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Which other network did you plan to use?
I ask because Tesco uses O2 so you can just use an O2 sim straight away without unlocking.
It's only a game

Ds2 has a Tesco phone, and we tried DS1's O2 sim in it and it worked fine. Could just have been a coincidence, but neither phones are unlocked. (DS1 had no battery/ DS2 no credit one day and they were messing around)
O2 are always giving free sim cards so you could get one to try, cost you nothing and you might get some Quidco money into the bargain!

we tried an o2 sim in a tesco phone and it didn't work - spent £5 in a local shop to get it unlocked insteadThe mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o

Thanks for replies.
I wanted to use a 'Giff Gaff' sim, I sent away for one the other day as it looked like a really good deal they do unlimited texts and internet and 100 minutes for £5 for a month (think its on special just now and it goes up to £10 at the end of this month - but still a good deal). I believe they are part of O2 so maybe i should just try the sim.0
