Right, i connected the laptop to the router and the router to the modem the local area network unpluged icon disappeared but was unable to access the internet i have had to connect the modem directly to the laptop again to reply... was that correct. I must be really trying your patience now...

In IE, tools, internet options, connections, lan settings, is everything unticked? If not, untick them.

making sure the laptop has no physical connection to the router, could you..

start, run, cmd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

ping 192.168.0.1 (does this work).
then in ie type in

192.168.0.1 as the address, it should give you a login screen.

If it doesn't wired the laptop to the router, and do the same thing.

if you get to the name and password screen, enter admin as the name, and leave the password blank.

i can access the site when the laptop is connected directly to the modem, but not when i use the wireless connection with the modem connected to the router. should i complete the wizard with the laptop connected to the laptop or will that be defeating the object of the exercise. also how do i ping the site address? I think i will pick this up tomorrow, would it be ok to pm you if you are on line?

by the site, do you mean 192.168.0.1 or moneysavingexpert?
