Can anyone help, I have a laptop with wireless capabilities, I purchased a wireless kit from pc world and installed it, Great was on the old sofa surfing away. I closed the laptop down when I restarted it, it would not connect to t'internet...the wireless icons and stuff stated the connection for wireless was very good but local area connection was not open, I have tried ringing pc world for help but no joy I looked at the laptop makers website and found the wireless on off keys, nothing doing. Can anyone offer advise/help or a hammer to reslove this problem....

Not encrypted is bad.(see the links to see why)..but we will come to that later..
try it wired and report back. (you need to find out if it is a wireless issue between your laptop and the router (or someone elses), or a problem between your router and the internet first).
If you look through the links I posted, there are some diagnostic tips.
If you are on cable, switch the cable router on first, wait 3 minutes, then switch the router on.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Right, I have the wireless network all hunkydory at the mo, but when i unplug the enet and plug in to the wan port on the router the little icon tells me that my local area con is not connected...the wireless connection is excellent ( or so it tells me...) I have to plug the enet back in the laptop to access the netDMP No: 293Light bulb moment 1st April 2009

by wired, I meant, cable modem - router - laptop, all wired with ethernet, not cable modem - laptop.
How did you set this up in the first place?
Does http://192.168.0.1 work wired, or wireless in ie?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
I have a cable modem connected via an ethernet lead to the laptop, the router was installed then connected to the cable modem and the only lead on the lap top was the power lead, and it connected to the internet, when i reinstall the software it connects wireless and allows internet access but everytime i restart it appears not to pick up that the modem is connected direcly to the router.( I am not very techy minded so i hope this answers your question )
what is http://192.168.0.1? when i click the link it asks me for a password.DMP No: 293Light bulb moment 1st April 2009

Try wiring it up, then do
start, run, cmd
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
then post the results of this command (remove any personal info)
start, run,
cmd
ipconfig /all >c:\1.txt
notepad c:\1.txtEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
pagee,
From the ipconfig, your ethernet card seems to be connected directly to your cable modem, and your wireless is connected to your router, so they should both be working.
Try unplugging the cable, then go to 192.168.0.1 in IE again. If that works, plug the cable from the cable modem back into the router.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
sorry but a bit lost, do you mean unplug the router from my laptop then connect to the site?DMP No: 293Light bulb moment 1st April 2009
