DD not excited to see me

My dd (2.5 yrs) started playgroup last week, when I pick her up the other children all see their mums and are really excited to see them and run up to them to give them a cuddle going "mummy". My dd looks over at me then carries on with what she is doing and then we'll go home. Why is she not pleased to see me? Why don't I get a cuddle?

I always imagined that those are the sort of magical moments you get as a mum! I feel a bit rejected as daft as that sounds!:(

    Hi

Don't be too upset; it sounds like you are raising a well adjusted, independent little girl and that's something to be proud of.

Because she is independent and confident enough to trust that you're not going without her, so she can finish the fun thing she's doing first :)

Don't worry yourself - she is obviously happy and content playing with her toys. I'm sure you would feel much worse if she was screaming and crying for you? I know which I would prefer ;)

I dropped DS2 off for his first day at school this morning - I said I was going home and would be back in a while for him...he barely looked up and I got an 'Ok - see you' then he turned away to his new friends. :rotfl:

My eldest went through a weird phase.

When I dropped him off, he was right drama queen with fake sobs and hanging onto my leg screaming "please don't leave me, don't leave me, pleeeeeeaaaaaase" and I felt really embarrassed and hated leaving him.

Then when I went to pick him up, he'd just completely ignore me rather than be pleased I was back!

It only lasted a couple of months and then he snapped out of it. Still no idea what caused that or why.
Here I go again on my own....

I was just going to post something similar :D

when I dropped my oldest boy off for his first day at school (there was no nursery or playgroup all those years ago, so he didn't know anyone) he just let go of my hand, walked off into the classroom & didn't even look back

in my head I knew it was a good thing he was so confident, but in my heart at the time I was  ... :o
  • Thanks so much everyone, I do feel much better having read your replies. I was worried that I've done something wrong so she doesn't feel attached to me. :o

She sounds just like my daughter. Not at all clingy and very happy doing her own thing. Even though i'm the parent at home with her, she's never really been that 'into' me TBH. (different for Daddy tho!) It has felt hurtful at times, but i've learned to live with it and feel grateful that when she starts school nursery next month i won't have to worry too much i hope.

    Mine were exactly the same.

I had long faces when I picked them up they were having such a good time and they didn't want it to stop.

They also used to ask me to be late picking them up from parties - they wanted to be the very last one to leave!!
