Hi there! This is the Old Style Daily Thread for 23rd August 2010. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
[*]As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
[*]When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
[*]Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just fine.
Morning all
No idea what the weather is like it's still too dark to tell.
Hubby's back at work today so no more lazy starts for us.
I shall make his packup & cook our breakfast & then drop him at the station.
Tea tonight is chicken & veg pie, one of the many meals I made yesterday from the roast chicken I cooked.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Good morning. Just popped in before I have to start getting ready for work. Going to take some of the chocolate cake I made yesterday with me, so that should make today a little bit more bearable! Boyfriends band have a gig tonight, so will be going to that. As I'm the drummers girlfriend, I get into their gigs for free :-) now that's moneysaving! :-)the only debt left now is on credit cards! The evil loan has gone!! :j:j0

Good morning, Hester, and all who follow. I hope the weather in the south and south west was not as bad as the forecasters had predicted for last night.
We had our own weather problems yesterday; Saturday had been one of the loveliest days of the year, right up until late in the evening. We went to a barbecue at some friends nearby and we sat outside until gone midnight. A couple of hours later and we were woken up by a huge thunderstorm with buckets of rain that found a couple of loose tiles on one of the roofs, so yesterday morning was spent mopping up and fixing the tiles. My internet connection here is by Livebox (known to be sensitive to thunderstorms) so the advice is always to unplug it until the storm passes, so I had to leave it off for most of the morning.
The afternoon was spent checking over the holiday home I look after because the last lot of guests had just left. The guests who stayed there in July actually took all the bedlinen off the beds and washed and dried it all, as well as the towels; while it meant I didn't earn quite as much as I expected, it was lovely to find it all done when I got there. The latest guests didn't, so I now have loads of laundry to do - two double beds, two single beds, and a load of towels and bathmats, so I'm hoping for some good drying days! Still, they left everything else clean and tidy so it won't be a huge job getting it ready for the next lot who arrive in September.
Today, the forecast is not too good, so DH will be plastering and I have some online work to get on with. Tomorrow, we'll be taking back the piece we had ordered for my car which turned out to be wrong, so we will get our money back buy it when we come back to the UK, where it turns out to be half the price! France used to be a lot cheaper than the UK but everything these days seems to be a lot dearer, so you really have to shop around. I think I must spend about £10 - £15 more a week on food and essentials here - it would help if I didn't keep comparing prices, but I can't help it!
Our friends have their new chickens and they are lovely - four black ones and two red ones. They arrived with unclipped wings and escaped into the neighbours' garden a couple of times, so they had to show our friends how to clip the wings which seems so unkind. Still, the chooks seem really happy and it's lovely to see them pecking around. We met other friends who also have chickens and they say they are easy to look after, so we are now very tempted to get some once the work on the house has been finished.
Anyway, I missed coming on here yesterday so I hope everyone is well and had a good weekend. I'll go now and catch up on yesterday's posts. Hope you all have a good day.

Hester thanks for starting the thread.
Enjoy the gig tonight glitterkitty.
Hope you don't get too many storms like that mioliere
We went to a great BBQ yesterday and the weather was hot and sunny:)
Then last night the heavy rain woke me up and was so loud and gusting it kept me awake.
Hope everyone had a good weekend and a good day today,

Currently listening to Prom 49: A Celebration of Rodgers and Hammerstein on the iplayer, while drinking a cup of coffee, before the small child awakens.

Looks like it has been raining overnight, but apparently going to be fine for the rest of the day. Must have been some rain, because the tomato plants have toppled over....
A day of housework planned for me today, in between toddler wrangling. We have the blind man coming this afternoon to fit blinds in our newly decorated front room. BIL is coming over this evening to help OH move furniture while the small boy sleeps.
Chilli con carne for tea, with rice, tortilla chips, shredded cheese, and runner beans from my Auntie's garden. Not authentic tex mex but never mind.
Breakfast will be toast, juice and banana. Don't know for lunch yet... Maybe minestrone soup if I can get my act together.
Also have some online banking to catch up with. Need to pay nursery fees, and a couple of other bills.
Have a good day everyone. :j0 -

Morning all!
OH left for work at 6:15 this morning, so i've put a load in the wash machine, hoping i can hang it up before i leave for work, done the dishes from last night's dinner, done some ironing and now it's chill time with a cuppa till i need to leave for work. Debated whether to get the early train to work but it gets me in an hour eaerlier and i've decided against that.
I've got some Tomato soup for lunch and tuna and cheese jacket potato for dins yum yum.
Hope everyone has a lovely day!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Monring folks, its a dull and dreary Monday here - but its not raining - yet!!Not been on for a couple of days as we were treated to time away at a 5 star hotel from our family for our silver wedding and WOW was it something else - good for my moneysaving as we havent spent anything all weekend apart from taking the family out for tea last night when we got back, but in true MS fashion used the local Spree book and saved £16 - will add this to my total but it might be close to taking me over my grocery challenge! Back to reality now and finding it hard to stay focussed, but needs must. Going to take a packed lunch with me today, and have some yogurts that need used up - not sure what will be for tea, its meal planned and in the freezer so just have to take it out before I leave for work.
Hope youu all have a good day,

Good Morning All
Weather is horrible here
been pouring all night. Think has stopped now but everywhere is soaking.
Plans for today - OH, DS & myself are off to the London Dungeons (courtesy of Mr T) DD is too scared :rotfl:.Then DS has boxing tonight so won't get any of my online course done. Didn't get much done yesterday either as had a computer problem which took all afternoon to sort  Will attack it again on Tuesday.
Probably something easy like spag bol for tea. House is quite tidy and acceptable & washing is up to date.
Going to get some essential office stuff done now, so have a good day.x0 -
Morning all
Raining and very dark and dreary here this morning. Had a beautiful day yesterday, and at some point in the night have had heavy rain that has still not stopped! Don't know what time it started as I fell asleep on the sofa and woke at 1am and it wasn't raining then.
Took the caravan away on Saturday morning and the boys and my parents are still there, I will go back on Thursday after DS2's hospital appointment. We're taking nephew for the first time, that should be fun been a while since I've looked after a 6 year old!
Have menu planned - just need to put it into motion. Tonight we're having quorn stir fry and noodles.
Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Morning all

Start of the new uni course today, been buzzing around the flat since half 6 trying to work out if I'm ready - it shouldn't be that difficult, according to the paperwork, all I need is paper and a pen, they're supplying everthing else (including lunch!). Ah well, if I get the panicking over with now, by the time term starts properly I should be much calmer...
At least by being up so early, I've got my menu plans done for the week, as well as the shopping list so I can pick up the couple of bits I need on my way home tonight!
Right, better finish my tea, and get moving... That'd be just right for me, up at dawn and *still* late!!
Have good days everyone
