help!! am drowning under a list of household appliances breaking down. all since my husband walked out 18 months ago! now by no means am i saying if he were here he could fix all these things but at least we would have the finance to get them repaired/replaced. first the cooker oven temperature is the same no matter what number you select, this went first so now all oven cooking is trial and error. not accurate way of cooking trying to peer through glass door while flame rages within. but no money to call someone out and no family or friends do diy. then my hoover stopped sucking and cuts out every few minutes. so back to sweeping up by hand. then the toaster and the kettle. these i did manage to replace with a sale in argos ut now the washing machine!!! have lived in 5 different homes so they cant be to blame but have gone through countless washing machines and all with the same problem, not draining away. at one time took out additional cover for 3 years for parts and service and you guessed it packed in 3 years and 4 months after we bought policy. so at present have a machine full of soapy washing and have only stopped crying long enough to post on here. what is the current call out charge and has anyone had similar problem who can perhaps give me a rough idea of what it may cost to get fixed please????

a faulty pump is the most likely cause.
they cost about 10/15 quid off ebay and are pretty simple to change over. ask a friendly neighbour?
a WM fiter will charge about 50 quid plus parts. his parts will be expensive compared to ebay.Get some gorm.0 -
Ours did that!
I checked the filter and there was nothing in it. There's a rubber pipe going from under the drum into the pump. I took that off and found a sock, a bra wire and some coins! Put the hose back on and it's worked fine since! Here I go again on my own....0 -
On the 3 or 4 times this has happened to us, its always been the filter blocked with something.
normally a panel on lower front which just pulls of, then a circular knob about 2" diam, ( some held with 1 screw) remove that and all the water and debris will come out -needs lots of towels handy.
look inside pipe for more jammed debris0 -
Oven - it's the thermocouple failed which is a cheap part, so you'd only pay the call-out.
You can buy oven thermometers quite cheaply - bring the oven up to temp, stick the dinner in, turn the oven knob to minimum and check it occasionally.
Hoover - filters blocked, motor is overheating. New filters usually fairly cheap online - google make/model + filter
W/machine - filter/pump as others have said, there is usually an emergency door release inside the machine if you need to get the washing out. Opening the washing machine case may expose live electrics, moving parts and sharp edges.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -

They always seem to go at the same time!first the cooker oven temperature is the same no matter what number you select, this went first so now all oven cooking is trial and error.
Mine did that, never did get it fixed, learned to live with it until I got a new cooker - having a baking tray on the shelf above whatever I was cooking helped, trial and error etc
then the toaster and the kettle.at present have a machine full of soapy washing and have only stopped crying long enough to post on here
I've had 3 machines that've done this, each time it's been the filter, can sometimes be a real pain to get off. The one I have now is behind a flap on the front of the machine, simply unscrews (unless something is jammed:cool:. An older one, we used to have to pull it out and lift it up to get to the filter. Messy work but better than a call-out charge.0 -
Mine too is always the filter or on this current machine that doesn't have an accessible filter, the waste pipe at the end is always blocked (it has a small mesh filter on it here and traps stuff in a less than 2in pipe). I have to disconnect it from the waste pipe under the sink and pull all the gunk out. It doesn't take long, just annoying and smelly.
My last machine had a filter you could access from the front at the bottom of the machine and the stuff that used to come out of that!
Google your machine to see where the filter is or any other specifics to it. Give that a good go first and if it works AOK, then get yourself some bicarb of soda and white vinegar to give your machine a super wash out.0 -

lol, thermocouples have nothing at all to do with controlling temperature, they are a safety device, did you mean the thermostat by any chance?0 -
a big hug to everyone that posted advice on here. i have made some headway. hoover is definitely over heating so use it in short blasts
found a laptop repair place at the back of a cash convertor place who wanted to charge me £20 to look at it!!! found similar place who looked at it while i was there and didnt charge me anything. he said he thought it was just the keyboard and to leave it with him to check nothing else wrong. he tried to get new keyboard without success i tracked one down on ebay £14 free delivery. took it back to shop as not confident enough to try and fit myself but he did fit it for £15 so for £29 i now have what looks and behaves like a new lap top
oven still not decided what to do so avoidasmuchas possible and whenwedocook in it we sit in front of it andwait till it looks cooked. i know ihave to faceit assome stage but not today.
washing machine another story. have been sent an offer of parts and labour supplied as many times as i wasnt for £77 annually which also says i can keep getting callouts tillsuch time they will givce me a new machine if i continue the ddannually. is this a good option or not???? i can see good andbad??0
