    yes, assuming its got 2 , may only have one

    if only one then check its clicked in properly

    I'm with the other posters though , if its been accidently dropped then the hard disk may be shot

    I don't think it's a memory fault, because it's getting past the POST (power-on self test) stage that includes checking the memory.

    Hi rdpro. I can't even get that far the screen goes blank
    within a second can just about get to see the hp logo
    just taken out both memory things and started it up but still
    nothing

    We have just taken the hard drive out and put it back I
    again still nothing

    No the white dot is just an underscore type thing and it is not flashing

    On startup, you may encounter a variety of error messages. These error messages provide you and the HP Service technicians with information about what may have gone wrong with the hardware or software on the computer. If the error involves a hardware failure, the system generates a warranty ID code that validates the failure conditions for the customer support representative.

    UEFI Startup Menu Options

    To determine if your computer has the UEFI environment, press the Power button to start the computer, and then press and hold the Esc key. A Startup Menu with some of the following options appears. Depending on the model, not all of these options are available.

    (F1) System Information

    (F2) System Diagnostics

    (F7) HP SpareKey

    (F9) Boot Device Options (F10) BIOS Setup

    (F11) System Recovery for Consumer Notebooks

    (F11) System Recovery for Business Notebooks

    (F12) Network Boot (F12)

    We have tried the esc button and f8 and f11. Ut as the screen
    is completely blank I can't see any of those options. I really
    appreciate the time and trouble u have taken thanks guys

    I will just have to see what happens tomorrow I will check out
    prices for hard drive before buying and see if there is any
    other advice left here thank you For all ur advice every one
