Hmm looks like it's back to the drawing board then. Thanks anyway.
  • There was a Breakers near here that used to fit them for £30 plus the screen... So myabe worth a call to a few breakers..

Ring Autoglass etc aswell and explain its not an insurance job... your paying. Offer to take it to them aswell may work out a bit cheaper.. I took a van to them years ago and it was cheaper than them sending a fitter out.

Smile windscreens... give online prices might be worth a look.

try a local screen fitter (bound to be some in the yellow pages under windscreens) who will be able to fit one for around £70 inc the screen - i know theres a few near me who do it..

    Do you have fully comp?

If so, it's £10 (or whatever your windscreen excess is) from you and Autoglass (or whoever) will tip up on your doorstep and fit brand new.

I've never seen cheaper than £50, or £75 nowadays.

But I have just fitted my own (rubber seal type), and it's not impossible.
Having said that I think the mark 4 is bonded anyway.

So have I on 1960s/1970s Triumphs. Straightforward and quick to do. As others have said, though, strictly a job for a specialist these days. That's progress:).
  • I fit a lot of things for people, day in - day out, but a windscreen I'd just tell 'em to ring Autoglass.

Not something I can think of many mechanics wanting to deal with. I wouldn't have a clue where to start to be honest.

    Get a kitten, trust me.

I have fitted a windscreen actually, on a Robin Hood 2B, so I lied above :rotfl:
