Hotels in Nice

My Aunt and another lady are coming over from Austarlia and are doing a bit of travelling around Europe. The Aussies have more money than sense and had booked a hotel at £200 a night but it looks like it is going to fall through as they aren't getting the sea view they thought they were.

Could anybody recommend a decent hotel near the beach that doesn't cost an arm and a leg that will be more in my mums price range?

Thanks.

We stayedi n Hotel Le Grimaldi a few years ago - it's a 'boutique' hotel and very nice. Can be expensive but I booked through Laterooms... Got a good bargain. It's not at the front but only a few streets back and very central. If I ever went back I would definitely stay there again as I was lovely. Hope this helps.

and I stayed in http://www.villa-victoria.com/eng/ pretty, about 5- 10 mins from the prom & the vielle ville. A little "french" classic - big atmospheric shutters on the windows, pretty garden complete with orange trees & fallen oranges. Fridge in the room, good shower. Really enjoyed it. Recommended

They just wanted the sea view. My mum has reminded them that the seasons are different here and they probably won't be sitting on the balcony drinking wine as it will be cold/ dark early at the end of October.

Best Western New York in Nice is a nice hotel, we stayed there last year for my 40th. Its a 10 minute walk to the beach but you can use the tram which is very easy to use. It doesnt have a pool or anything, not many hotels in Nice to but its in a good location and not expensive.

  • If you are going to Nice make sure you try the Bouillabaisse (a fish soup containing various kinds of cooked fish and shellfish and vegetables) it is completly amazing! Mmmm!!!

Not sure when they're going there, but Nice is lovely in September. I stayed in the Hotel Boreal. It's a very reasonable price, clean, and friendly. It's a ten minute walk to the beach, but the tram stop (to the beach, train or bus station) is a few steps away. It's very cheap to travel around the Riviera by bus. I recommend a trip to Eze - very beautiful!

They've booked a very nice apartment.
Its £200 a night which works out very well between the three of them.
Its got a nice terrace with a sea view one road back from the beach.

I think it is better for them as they've now got a social area to have a drink or three!!. In a hotel they would just go back to their rooms.

I am still grateful for your experiences and recommendations/ warnings for Nice and the area so that I can pass them on.
  • Hiya,

An apartment is the best idea! We did that last year and are doing it again this year in Nice and it works out sooo much better. There are a few supermarkets around centrally too, so they can easily buy bits :)

If you look on the Tripadvisor website there is a Nice forum with loads and loads of reccomendations/help and you can post specific questions and you'll generally get a decent reply too!
