Howdy. So there's an iPhone 3GS sitting in front me, and the screen has been shattered, although the phone still seems to be working.
Aside from Apple, are there are any third party people out there who can repair a completely cracked screen?

There's lots of people on eBay, but just make sure you pick someone who has good feedback. Here's the first off the list when I selected "Buy it now" on a search for "iphone repair service" (clicky). 99.8% positive feedback is good.
As I said, this is just the first one on the list so is not a recommendation at all.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -
Thanks for the above; not sure if I'm brave or skilled enough to follow Stompa's suggestion. And yes Browntoa there might be some locals. I'm in in Glasgow and have already found iRepair; they might be getting a visit from me tomorrow. There are a few, such as iPhone Repairs who offer a next day service by Royal Mail Recorded Delivery. I'm just nervous about sending my phone out into the ether, no matter how kosher the website and testimonials look. All are around the £50 mark for iPhone 3GS screen and digitizer repairs.
Any personal experiences or recommendations really appreciated, cheers.0 -
It sounds as if you only need the glass replaced if the iPhone is still working. The iRepair shop says its £29.99 for that on their website which isn't a bad price and certainly less than Apple would charge! In the beginning, the universe was created. Update: iRepair at 1068 Argyle Street Glasgow did it on the spot in about an hour for £40 (cash only). The original iPhone (2G) and the newest iPhone 4 are apparently both much more expensive to repair, because the LCD screen is integrated with the glass screen and digitiser. The iPhone 3G and 3GS are a bit cheaper because the LCD screen (which in my case was undamaged) is separate.
Thanks for all the input.0 -
:TJust to let you know that I went ahead with a recommendation on this thread to check out repairers on ebay, and I can now personally recommend "dappatech" . He is based in birmingham. I posted my phone out special delivery on wed and I have just received it back by special delivery today with a brand new replacement screen on my iphone 3GS. Very happy customer, and great service. Saved nearly £120 as apple would have charged £149 and just changed the phone.0
