Recording Sky Programmes

HI

For the past few years I have had a sky subscription. I used to have the sports channels but dropped them a couple of months ago. Now I have three basic channels. I had a single line input and a standard Amstrad box. I used to record programmes, the old way, using my Toshiba recorder.

A couple of months ago the opportunity came to have a new quad dish installed so now I have four feeds from the quad plus one from the old dish.

I then bought a Humax Foxsat recorder and I could not believe how easy it was to record programmes.

So now I have my basic subscription Sky channels in addition to the freesat channels on my Humax ; both working together fine (although on different input sources), of course.

The problem is that I want to record my Sky subscription channels (especially the documentaries) with the same "ease of recording" that I can achieve on my Humax. There is no going back now to the old "manual" way of recording.

I would be grateful if anyone could advise me what the best options are. I believe I am right in saying that it is not possible to use the Humax to record sky programmes.

So it would seem that I need to get hold of Sky Plus box

I have no problems with the line feeds required but need help in understanding the various upgrade options available. Would it be best to get a Sky plus box myself from ebay? Even if I do this will I still need to pay an extra subscription for Sky to make it functional?

Many thanks for any help or advice.

As long as you have a Sky sub you don't need to pay the £10pm for the PVR functions on the Sky+ box. So an eBay box would seem the best solution,as nothing else is required if you already have the 2 spare feeds from the quad LNB.
You can't receive the Sky sub channels to record on the Hummy as the box cannot decrypt them.

Many thanks macman. That means the solution (and cost) is going to be a lot easier than I thought.

The more I looked at the "available" options the more confused I was getting.

    Thanks for clearing it up.
