Section 75 claims

You don't expect one to conk out 20 minutes after you buy it, but I've been there :rotfl:0

So, to conclude: The engine management light has come on after 6 weeks.0

Yeah although its inconvenient, before you do anything else you need to get on the phone to the original dealer first thing tomorrow morning and ask what they intend to do about it. Follow that up with a recorded delivery letter as well if they don't seem aimiable.0

New cars are a different ball game, the maker is responsible for repairs so the vehicle can be taken to any authorized dealer of that make.0 -

If the fault code was last cleared 17000KM's (not miles?) ago then thad doesnt mean it was cleared to sell the car. It just means the fault code was cleared and possibly had a fault fixed.
Hmm I think being female counts for about 50% of my cynicism but gnerally I feel its been misrepresented because we asked about history, faults/repairs ect and nothing was mentioned at all.
The RAC man found lots of fault codes relating to the turbo solenoid, fuel system ect and no sign of repairs at all.Sanity is the playground of the unimaginative!0 -

Yes the engine mangement light has come on and the car is utterly undrivable and thus " not fit for purpose" after 6 weeks.
I know that a decent amount of wear and tear is expected on a 5 year old car, but I don't think its reasonable to need repairs 6 weeks after purchase.Sanity is the playground of the unimaginative!0 -
You'd be surprised. No, really you would...!
First thing to do is to phone the dealer and kindly ask them to help you put as the car is undriveable.
Worst thing you can do is start mentioning Section 75, Trading Standards, Court etc as that will get you no help from them.
Cars go wrong, its one of them things. Give the mchance to fix it
The fault codes could have been there for days, months or even years.0 -

As Harvey always says, never mention trading standards to a trading standard approved dealer in the first conversation. If they fob you off, mention it, stand up for your rights and report them. It'll increase their subscriptions next time hopefully as well.0 -

Thank you so much for all your advice, it is really, really appreciated. I will definately hold off on mentioning section 75, I hadn't really considered that it would probably get their backs up, thank you for highlighting that!!
I think I'll call them tomorrow, let them know whats happened and then see what they say.Sanity is the playground of the unimaginative!0 -
Good call.
There was an irate man in the bank infront of me last week complaining to the unhelpful girl on the counter. But as he was screaming and shouting, it got him no where, apart from frog marched out of the building
Stay calm, be polite.0
