Lowell & O2

I received a letter a couple of months ago saying that I owed Lowell £171.20 for an old O2 account.

I'm pretty damned sure I paid off all my debts, so I asked them to send me all the details. The bills dated back to November 2006. O2 apparently put a default notice on my credit score.

I've asked them for a statement and thery sent back an itemised call list from O2.

They have said if i don't now pay within 7 days they're going to pass this onto their solicitors.

I would prefer they do this because then I can see EXACTLY what data they have on this.

They also state that O2 and Lowell are not aware of any reason for non payment.

I've checked my bank statements and unfortunately I will have to pay £10 to get them as they are archived because they go back so far.

I have asked for the original contrcat but they said they don't need to send this (hence my wanting them to commence legal proceedings so they send me their case files in preparation for court).

Once they send me this and if it DOES add up can I still offer to pay the original amount or can they refuse?

what proof could/would they hold?
