That's really great news. It's a shame anyone had to struggle like that in the first place, but at least things worked out in the end. I worry about families in similar situations that don't have the capability and determination of the father.

    This is excellent news.
I also wporry about those who dont have someone to speak up for them or fight their corner.
So much so that i have set up a facebook page for other concerned parties.
There so many mistakes made in our care services that leave vulnerable adults, both young and old without adequate support. These can sometimes be people who do not know their rights or how to fight for them.
Even the regional Safeguarding Adults boards are not adequate, as they do not act on concerns they receive, its disgraceful.
Please join our group if you have similar concerns.

From what I read of it his behaviour only became worse because of being away from his father and his home (perfectly logical) and the only incident with any member of the public was when he was able to just wander straight out of the care home with only a friend also from the care home with him. His father stated that in his care he always has two adults with him at all times when he's out.

Just heard on the news that he is back home!!!!!!!!

    Reporting restrictions now lifted.

Now we can all find out what really happened.

There was a link a few posts back about him being home, that's what bumped the thread :-)

This is th first time I have read this thread and I may be stating the obvious but even if Steven is deemed not to have capacity, he should still be cared for in the 'least restrictive' environment. Glad he is back home and hope that you can access any suppor that you may need in the future without all the rigmarole.
  • just bumping this up as Mark and Steven have another issue now. the council are now stopping their HB as they say the compensation has to be used to pay rent, but it's not been paid yet!!!

My heart sank when I read this last post. I had come across the thread today and read it with tears in my eyes and a huge lump in my throat. My son is autistic and can have challenging behaviour. I also do some work for the Challenging Behaviour Foundation as an Expert Qualified by Experience.

The hideous battles carers for people like Stephen and my son have to fight just to get ordinary stuff done (registering my son with a new doctor has taken 3 months), he moved recently and we have been told his HB will have to go to appeal even though we won an appeal in his old location in June this year, and I could go on. and that's without the big stuff such as this case which I bet is not unique. It makes me fume. Life as a carer is tough sometimes and I can't tell you how much I wish the system would stop making it even tougher. Carers like Stephen's father save the country billions of pounds and do it gladly. Can't the 'system' cut them some slack?????
