If they asked for proof, I would imagine as with faith schools you would need something from the place of worship or perhaps dr? And of course your name would be a good indicator in this instance.

Regarding ownership I seem to recall something regardling other mortgages where by by the mort co actually own property untill you have been paying for a certain amount of time.............I may of course be incorrect in this.

Yes, because of course if I had the name Smith, for example, there's no way I could be a Muslim is there?
  • so , with I Claudius & DKNY finding it neccessary to ram their own unrelated opinions on the original question down our throats it seems no-own has an answer for you snapdragon.

I`ve never heard of this type of `mortgage` but will be watching this thread with intrest

Hairy: apologies, my post was off topic, agreed; but you're totally incorrect when you say i was ramming my unrelated opinions on the original question down anyones throats.

I wasn't responding to the original question; I was responding to an (imo) ill thought out, off topic and bigoted reply as is my right on a public forum. Presumably I am allowed to do this?

i find it interesting you don't bother to mention lizestelles intial comment (the comment that in actual fact started this thread to go OT) and opinions as being unrelated; perhaps you agree with him/her but thats not the issue if you're berating people for going off topic.

My entire point (and i think dkny's) was that I thought their comments were beyond the scope of this forum and not in any way related to the OP.

Or do you think casual (and totally unrelated to the OP) disrespect to other peoples beliefs should pass without comment here in case we go off topic?

i'm not a muslim or an expert but it's generally not mandatory to change your name upon converting to Islam.

In an effort to remain on topic I do recall reading that as the islamic mortgage process involves the property changing hands twice stamp duty needs to be paid twice also in addition to having at least a 20% or 30% deposit to qualify.

Not sure if there is a financial argument for getting a mortgage of this type

It would raise an eyebrow of doubt if you were called smith.

My brother and nephew converted and took on muslim names, though there is apparently no actual documented requirment for this it is I believe expected, granted my experience is a little limited as to muslim names but maybe someone could enlighted us............as mohammed or similar usually appears somewhere in the full name not necessarily as a surname. Not sureabout female names though so you may have vaild point dispite the tone.

HAIRY - If you refer to my other post i did answer the original posts question, secondly i was not ramming my opinion down yours or anyones throats, just highlighting another poster didnt answer the question and just went off on a racist non related rant.

my reply was, i think you need to read properly before you are qualified to comment or critisise!!

In reply to the original post, how would one prove or disprove if you are muslim. In the same way how would you prove you are a christian?

As long as you meet their criteria then there is no reason they can refuse you the product. HTH

    Good luck
