Useful database for mobiles etc
Having recently 'lost' two mobile phones from this family and spent a merry hour or two trying to work out what their IMEI nos had been so I could report their loss to the police online - yes I know I should have made a note of them somewhere, and I had, but WHERE? - I was pleased to discover that you can register mobiles and other equipment on the MENDUK database (Mobile Equipment National Database). And it's free!
The theory is you register your equipment, which can include laptops, iPods, cameras, PDAs etc. If it's stolen you can report it as such to the Police National Database with a single click. If it's just lost you can report it as such. Either way, if it turns up it's far simpler for you to be traced.
PLUS I think it makes it easier to quickly 'block' phones completely so they can't be used at all, ever, even on another network.
Plus you've got the details safely stored should you ever need them!
I registered the remaining phones a few days ago and I'm pleased to say I haven't been spammed as a result: the site says your details will NOT be passed on for mailing purposes.

MEND is a good site which is used by the National Mobile Phone Crime Unit. The theory being that if the Old Bill stop a dodgy geezer on the street with a tasty (or not so tasty) phone, they can make one phone call and check out who should be in possession of it via the IMEI....and then the window licker said to me...0
