MOT early last year!

No, what is printed on the MOT about preserving the date is correct as stated on G&Ss MOT. The MOT isn't a fixed period related to the first due date of a car, if your early or your late, that's what dictates the 12-13 month validity.0

Ok don't laugh at my rather poor demonstration picture below but I find that I can understand things better in visual form than written sometimes so here goes.

The top one shows what would normally happen, MOT runs for 12 months and at the end of those 12 months you take it in for a new MOT which will then last for 12 months and so on.
The second one shows what you did, your MOT ran out in December but in September you took it in early for an MOT. Unfortunately that means you 'lost' a few months of your MOT and now the date that it runs out is (and will continue to be unless you do similar again) September instead of December.
The bottom one shows what happens if you take your car for an MOT anywhere within the last month of the current MOT certificate expiring. The expiration date of the new MOT will have extra days added on as if you had taken it in on its last possible day. ie your certificate will show as lasting for 13 months (or anywhere between 12 and 13 depending on the exact date) so even though the car is being MOT'd early the current December date will still apply. This is the only time that an extra month can be added on to an MOT certificate which is why the garage didn't do this when you took your car in in September (over a month before it expired).
I hope that helps a little bit and that the image makes a bit of sense.0 -
OP, if you want an MOT expiring in December, you only option now is to get another MOT in this December.Maggiesunshine wrote: »...is she now stuck with a Sept date for the MOT
Your MOT will then expire in the following December.0
