not sure if you require cookies which are sometimes used to remember passwords/setting to sites, if so untick the cookies option before running

Could you post a fresh hijackthis log?

Did you notice a new profile menu when you booted?

If you created the hardware profile backup a new menu should have shown up for 2 seconds at boot

    to check start, run, services.msc

    find these services

    O23 - Service: Sony SPTI Service (SPTISRV) - Sony Corporation - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\SONYSH~1\AVLib\Sptisrv.exe
    O23 - Service: VAIO Media Music Server (VAIOMediaPlatform-MusicServer-AppServer) - Sony Corporation - C:\Program Files\sony\vaio media music server\SSSvr.exe
    O23 - Service: VAIO Media Music Server (HTTP) (VAIOMediaPlatform-MusicServer-HTTP) - Sony Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\vaio media platform\sv_httpd.exe
    O23 - Service: VAIO Media Music Server (UPnP) (VAIOMediaPlatform-MusicServer-UPnP) - Sony Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Sony Shared\vaio media platform\UPnPFramework.exe
    O23 - Service: VAIO Media Photo Server (VAIOMediaPlatform-PhotoServer-AppServer) - Sony Corporation - C:\Program Files\sony\photo server\appsrv\PhotoAppSrv.exe
    O23 - Service: VAIO Media Photo Server (HTTP) (VAIOMediaPlatform-PhotoServer-HTTP) - Sony Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\sony shared\vaio media platform\SV_Httpd.exe
    O23 - Service: VAIO Media Photo Server (UPnP) (VAIOMediaPlatform-PhotoServer-UPnP) - Sony Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\sony shared\vaio media platform\UPnPFramework.exe
    O23 - Service: VAIO Media Video Server (VAIOMediaPlatform-VideoServer-AppServer) - Sony Corporation - C:\Program Files\sony\giga pocket\GPVSvr.exe
    O23 - Service: VAIO Media Video Server (HTTP) (VAIOMediaPlatform-VideoServer-HTTP) - Sony Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\sony shared\vaio media platform\SV_Httpd.exe
    O23 - Service: VAIO Media Video Server (UPnP) (VAIOMediaPlatform-VideoServer-UPnP) - Sony Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\sony shared\vaio media platform\UPnPFramework.exe

double click on them, then click the logon tab

there should be 2 profiles showing, original and backup

the idea is to set the service to disabled for the original profile in the login tab and leave it to enabled in the backup tab

googleupdate, and seaport seem to be still running, did you set the services to disabled in services.msc?

this is the bit you should have done earlier?

control panel, system, hardware, hardware profiles, copy - call it backup.

select the first profile listed, set to 2 seconds.

this is a precautionary measure then if you (I) make a mistake, reboot and select the copy of your original profile from the boot menu.

If you know where the photo gallery software came from (HP/Microsoft) , try reinstalling, the windows installer cleanup utility which would normally fix this type of problem appears to have been pulled from the microsoft website

If it came with your printer, sticking the hp installation cd in might resolve it, it's usually because windows is looking for an msi file it can't find (because the cd isn't in)
